Teacher wearing bikini in swimming pool

Hello everyone, I'm new here - this looks like such a lovely community here, and I look forward to participating in many discussions here! I joined because I have a question to ask.

My child (8 years old boy) went on a trip a couple of weeks ago with his school to a swimming pool. They had qualified instructors outside the pool watching the children, but their teacher chose to go into the pool with them.

My boy told me that their teacher was wearing a very revealing bikini (not a sport one - something like this - www.summerinstyle.eu/cache/30b5e2199cc8f5d06d05de6bb991f9ed93d13a03.jpg ) - which was very surprising.

  • do you think this is appropriate for a teacher to wear during school time?

Hiya - It looks okay to me. I guess not if the teacher was very large maybe, but hard to say really.

Tell me, how did you get your child to describe the bikini such that you can tell how revealing it was? 8yo boys aren't usually observant about such things.

Can't see the problem myself ,and I'm sure this thread was 'done' a few months ago .

She was braver than I would have been but there is really nothing unusual about wearing a bikini in a swimming pool.

If she is wearing it to the harvest festival assembly then question it.
She wore a swimming outfit.
To swim in.

I think it's appropriate in a swimming pool

She is more covered up than a male teacher would have been in swimming trunks.

Why was it surprising? I don't generally get surprised when people wear swimwear in a pool. Not sure what your issue is, or why you feel it's any of your business.

Tunip - he mentioned it specifically because it was strange to him. He attends swimming classes, and one of the instructors (that demonstrates techniques in the water) wears a proper swimsuit designed for swimming.

Rest assured, 8 year old boys aren't as naive as you might think - one mention of girls and he goes bright red!

He's 8 and never seen a girl or woman wearing a bikini? Or thinks there is something "strange" about a woman wearing a bikini to swim in? How bizarre. Perhaps you could help educate him that women wearing bikinis is a perfectly normal occurrence in swimming pools.

This reminds me of thread about teachers wearing ugg boots and another one about clogs or sandals. Turned out to be some kind of spam type thingy.

Obviously not what's happening here.

I'd've thought the teacher was a bit silly if she was taking a bunch of Y8s swimming (for her own good; the Y8s would probably have loved it). But given that we're talking about 8 year olds, I don't really see an issue. 'Teacher wears bikini in swimming pool' is hardly shocking.

Perhaps she woke up, thought 'hmmmm swimming.....where is cozzie?' Can't find cozzie, have to go in the pool. Bikini or naked?
Bikini wins I think.

I agree nothing "wrong" or unusual. It's a good chance to talk to your son about bodies and women and respect. She was wearing a costume, only "revealing" if she was being inappropriatly stared at. People never think twice about a male topless, so why feel differently about a woman, who was covered up?

Properly LOL at the harvest festival comment!

when I was a rep we had to wear boardshorts and rash vest when in the pool with the kids. (both genders - no bare male chests either) This meant there was no question of some little joker pulling a bikini top off, or of it falling off, which would have made life hell for the rep and possibly opened her up to accusations of child abuse.

but this was an outdoor pool in the Med - also to prevent sunburn and set a good example.

it's not that the outfit is indecent, it is that it is asking for trouble in society as it is. So swimming instructors wear something that won't fall off, and hence your child noticed the bikini as it was unusual in the situation.
