Hi

Can anyone offer any information about Killermont Primary and Boclair Academy in Bearsden?

We have just moved into a house in the area and my DD starts P1 in August, we had initially wanted DD to go to Craigdhu as we went to see it and it had a really good feel about it and it is linked to Douglas Academy which I thought would be a fantastic high school, however now that we think about it, we would probably be better sending DD to Killermont as she is more likely to have friends in our own area as if we sent DD to Craigdhu all the kids would live in Milngavie and I am worried that she would miss out on a lot, friends wise as she wouldn't be able to just pop to friends to play and she would feel it more as she got older.

The only thing is where we stay (on Milngavie Road) we don't appear to have any neighbours with children. Is there anyone on here from the Killermont area or who's DC goes to Killermont? Do your children play with other kids in the area and what like is the school?

I hope that makes sense!!

Thanks in advance :O)

It's been a while since I've lived in the area so I'm not sure if I can be that helpful. From what I remember Douglas has a much better reputation than Boclair. Boclair has pupils from lots of tiny villages as well so there's a chance your DDs friends might live even further away than Milngavie. Depending on where on Milngavie road you are you might also be quite close to bearsden primary which would then feed into bearsden academy.

Is Craigdhu one of the ones that might be getting merged/closed - look in to that! I could be wrong though! :)

Oh and yes Douglas over Boclair.

Thanks to everyone for responding. We have decided to go with our instinct which is telling us to stick with Craigdhu Primary and then perhaps Douglas Academy when the time comes for High School. Don't get me wrong Killermont is obviously a very good school too, it is very modern, has all the up to date equipment etc but we just had a good feeling about Craigdhu and the fact that it's linked to Douglas Academy is an important point for us as we know a few people who's children go there and they can't praise it enough.

So we go for a visit to the school on Wednesday and DD is really excited :O)

Thanks again.....Macie

Hiya Macie!!
My friends have kids in Killermont (and the parents went there too...!) they have no complaints at all, and would recommend in a heartbeat...I used to play hockey up at Douglas, and always thought the facilities( and results) were better than Boclair's. Apparently "play dates" are the norm, so living a wee bit away from other kids shouldn't be too much of an issue. :-)
