Advice please - Walton Oak Primary

Hi,

My husband and I are currently house hunting. We are focusing on Surbiton and Weybridge, but have realised we get more for our money in Walton. However, I am concerned as the ofsted rating for Walton Oak Primary and Bell Farm are not good. We are not religious, so that rules out Catholic and are unlikely to secure a place in a CofE (which I note Ashley is Outstanding, but hard to get into).

I'd really appreciate some local advice / thoughts on state schools in the area, particularly Walton Oak. Our son is only 8 months old, so we do have time for schools to improve, but obviously need to consider these things now, as we don't want to have to move again in four years.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Walton Oak doesn't have a great reputation locally but it may be historical and I don't have any personal experience of the school to advise you. The ofsted at Bell farm will refer to the junior school only. As of this year it has become a primary school - the current reception class will stay on to year 6. It's too early to say what the infant part of the school will be like.

You also have Grovelands and Burhill locally (both previously infant schools but primaries from this year (this year's reception classes will stay to year 6). Burhill has a good reputation and I know people who are very happy with it. However, it is in Hersham so you need to be careful where you live to make sure you are close enough to get into the school.

Grovelands had a much better ofsted recently so seems to be improving.

If you live the Weybridge side of Walton station you may also get into Oatlands (infants) and Cleves (junior) but you have to live pretty close to both to get in.

I hope that helps you!

I am disappointed to see the negative remarks about Walton Oak which was Ofsted inspected in the spring and found to be good in all areas. It's more than just a flash buildingl. The teaching is excellent, there's very good behaviour and there is a very caring ethos. The school is going up and up each year with its results. If youre not sure, go and visit. I guarantee you will be impressed. I was.
