Beast Quest Reading Level

Does anyone know which level, or colour band Beast Quest books are? Just that really! DS likes to read them and I was thinking of swapping them for some of his very dull school ones but dont want to if they are lower.

On the accelerated reading scheme they are mostly 4's which is aimed at Y4.

This scheme tends to aim slightly easier books at year groups as it's more concerned with comprehension than just decoding, so the books appear a bit 'easy' but at least the DC can answer comprehension questions on them. So a good decoder in Y2 or Y3 could have a stab at them but might not get the full gist, IYSWIM.

DS is nearly 9 & fairly immature; I think he could have read them a year ago fine.

So they are higher than Lime? More perhaps a Grey + level? I havent come across the accelerated reading scheme so not sure how that fits in with the colour bands.

Tell me a few lime and grey titles and authors and I'll look them up on for you to compare. Smile

Substantially harder than lime/level 11 IMO.

Yeah, lime level is about 3.6-3.8 grey is 4.0. The Beast quest books are more like 4.8, so about 6 months past the grey level. Jeremy Strong is more Grey level, My Brother's famous bottom gets pinched, that sort of thing.

Id say age 7 or 8
My eldest is 7 and in year 2, not sure what colour his school books are but he avidly reads beast quest at home and is on series 5 now

Thanks very much for the input! I think I have been underestimating the difficulty of Beast Quest because its so formulaic and fairly large print with pictures. DS is on Lime but copes easily. I think he has not moved above lime because he is still needing to build on his stamina and comprehension. Its hard to get them to want to read a lot when the books are dull tho, hence reading Beast Quest for fun.
