Changing schools

Hi.
This may be a bit far off but I'm wondering if anyone can help regarding a change of school between England and Scotland.
We currently live in England and DS5 is in YR and DD3.10 is due to start YR in September (she's a May baby).

If we were to move back to Scotland after September would DS (a Feb baby so at scottish cut off point) start in P2 or would they want him to do P1 as the first years are slightly different? And if DD had started school here would she be able to start P1 even being only 4?

And would this be different if we move before Sept? DD having to wait a until Aug 2014 before starting.

Thanks for any advice

If DS was born in February 2008 he would have started P1 last August, so would go into P2 this August. You can ask to defer his entry as he is a February birthday, so he could start P1 this August, but that is your choice rather than the school's.

Assuming DD was born in May 2009 she would start P1 in August 2014.

Which area are you looking to move to?

Thanks.
Think DD would be very disappointed if she didn't get to go to school this year. Any idea what would happen if she'd already started school down here?

Not sure where yet. Lived in Dundee up until a few years ago but no jobs there for DH but possibly for me, so maybe Fife somewhere stuck between Dundee & Edinburgh. But all early days yet.

Whole school thing with DD may be a factor although I'd love to go home smile

It depends on age, not whether DCs have been at school elsewhere.

She could be enrolled in a school nursery from August (2.5 hours per day), so like school!

She does that just now for 3.5 hrs but she's very excited about going to big school!

If the move us right for the rest of you, DD will just have to put up with it!

To be honest, I wouldn't be putting any child of mine through the English primary school system at the moment ...

I'm not sure it would be right for all of us. For me - yes!
I was very much against they system when we first moved here but the kids are loving it and its a lovely small village school and I'm worried about finding the same up the road.

And the fact that there is only 15 months between them so having them two years apart at school just doesn't seem right - their abilities aren't that different. I know if we'd stayed in Scotland we would have defered DS but I'm not sure putting him into P1 would be good for him now either.
I know in a couple of years it would make no difference its just the here and now I'm worried about.

What line of work is your DH in? Some lovely wee places in East and North-East Fife.

DS would probably be best going into P2 - if he's already in YR I think it would feel like a step backwards for him to go into P1.

Unfortunatley he's in the Games industry.

We left over two years ago, but there is a good chance I could get my job back. Which doesn't pay as much as DH but I loved it and there is no chance of getting it down here.

The school thing worries me and DH would be kinda taking a step backwards but I would love it. Scotland has so much more going for it than down here and I'd like to be back for the vote.

(Feel like we're having our own little conversation here, but I appreciate you being my sounding board)

thanks

No probs - we live in Angus so I totally understand you wanting to be up here. smile
