Hi

I have these old books, old in that they are from the 50's but were last printed about 15 years ago.

Are there any English teachers/tutors who have used these books, as I need to understand the ages of the books.

I have Books 1 to 4, and it says Book 1 is for 8 year olds (would that be 7-8 or 8-9), Book 2 says 9, Book 3 says 10 and Book for says 11.

I have a Year 4 DS, a rising 9 and am unsure whether to use Book 2 or Book 3.

I'm not a teacher/tutor, but if you want to introduce these books to your DS in addition to their school work (I'm assuming your DS is at school, rather than home educated) why not start with Book 1 and if they find that easy then move on to Book 2 etc.

Without wishing to sound rude, you know your child best and know what level they are at with their learning and what they are capable of. Hope that helps?

Hi
I read that you have Bk 1-4. I am keen to take a look. May I know your country of residence. Did you proceed in introducing the book/s to your child. If so, how useful are they?

I would guess that each one corresponds to a junior school year so
age 11=10 to 11 year olds= year 6
And so on.
If your child turns 8 this school year (in y3) then book 1 would be aimed at his age.

If you are using them for an entrance exam or similar then you might have to go up a year or two depending on how academically hard the test is.

Hi Miss Gracie,
Thank you for your commentsnon 26/10/12. I wonder if you have read the content of the 4 books before. How good are they?

Hi Leeeng

They are good but no answers are available. So I use Hadyn Richards Junior English 1 to 4. Whilst not as hard as 110 Exercises, they can be useful. I also user Once a Week Comprehension by Hadyn Perry.

Excuse me, you mentioned you wre from SE Asia. Can you specify which country, as it is nice to hear from other cultures as we can learn so much from each other.

Hi tectime
I am from the Republic of Singapore. I am a retiree and happened to come across your posting. If I can recall correctly, my teacher used them as teaching aid as such I would like to take a look at Book 1 to 4 as a revisit.

Can I assume that you are from the UK. May I invite you to Singapore or alternatively I can go to UK. For most travellers, boarding is most expensive. So if you would like to visit my beautiful country I will play host and arrange for you to stay with me.

Hi leeeng

I just received your PM. Please do not be offended but i prefer to respond in this Open Forum, and I do not see the point in PM messages.

Also, sorry for my sounding even ruder, but why would you invite a poster to your home in your country. I am sorry, but even as an adult I am wary of strangers - even if they are well intentioned.

You can purchase the books you request very easily from ebay, amazon or the book depository. However, I am sure you can source better books in Singapore. It is often held as a shining example for educational achievement and I am sure you can find many challenging books there.
