Book ideas for 11 year old boy please......

DS1 11 is a great reader but seems to be struggling to find something to read at the moment. I don't want to let this interest slide.
Latest books read range from The Hunger Games series and lots of Bear Grylls! Any ideas please......??

Leviathan by scott westerfeld, try some if the disc world novels, graceling by kristin casshore though I will say that the second and third books might be a bit harsh for his age.

Probably stating the obvious, but Harry Potter, the Eragon series, the Noughts and Crosses series by Malorie Blackman, the Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer, the Mister Monday series by Garth Nix. Terry Pratchett has written some great ones for older kids - I liked The Amazing Maurice, and A Hat Full of Sky.

Interestingly, My boys both read the Noughts and crosses series at about that age but I've only just recently read it myself and I'm not sure that it was actually that appropriate - there are a few bits in it that are probably overly sexual for a young lad and I'm also not convinced that the suicide bomb theme of the 3rd book is appropriate either.

What about the Tunnels series or some of the anthony Horowitz books after Alex rider. There was also a series of books that was like the opposite of Alex Rider - a school for criminals rather than spies but for the life of me I can remember what it was - i'll have a look in the morning. My son loved those.

Also what about the Septimus Heap books, I think those were enjoyed too,

Thanks all, some good suggestions. We do go to the library but he's not a browser, just says "I don't know. There is nothing!!!"
May hunt for some of these myself and just present them to him.

Divergent, Insurgent, Allegient series
Half Bad - my 12 year old loved this. It's written by an accountant who did a creative writing class in her 40's. fair play to her she has now got a 1 million squid book deal to write a trilogy and the makers of the "twilight" films will be turning the book into a movie!

Would he perhaps browse more at the library if he went on his own?

Sounds daft, but if I take dd and sit where she can see me, she does the same, "it doesn't matter/I don't know/can't find anything"

If I pop out to do an errand and say "I'll be back in 10 mins" or just go and browse myself where she doesn't feel watched, she comes out with handfuls.

Similar to Hunger Games - Divergent by Veronica Roth or Maze Runner by James Dashner. But I also think the Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve is very good.

He's read them. They are now on DS2 bookshelf but getting him to pick up a book for pleasure is nigh on impossible!

I was sent a recommendation recently to a book which has just been released on Amazon. It's called Guardian of the Underworld and is a sort of Harry Potter/ Lion Witch and the Wardrobe/ Indiana Jones! My kids absolutely loved it- even my very reluctant reader. The only thing is it's only currently available as a kindle/ digital download for your pc.
