hello.

My dd is only just 9 and over the past few months has changed shape. She has developed hips, a rather big bum, some puppy fat, and whilst she hasn't got boobs yet, you can see they are developing.
These last few days she has just started crying for no apparent reason and says she doesn't know why. She also says her boobs hurt.
I was only 9 when I started my periods myself, but can't remember crying, although I could have done.
Does this sound like the beginning of puberty or should I be looking at other reasons for the crying?
There has been no recent changes or upset in her life recently, just normal run of the mill stuff.

I had mastitis when my boobs started growing at the same age, they were painful and the GP gave some kind of med to ease (it is more than 30 years ago so not sure what it was, but he didn't make fun of me or my mum) Have her checked?

Breast buds can hurt when they start to develop -
My dd calls them booblets - probably time for a crop top as they can be very sensitive.

Thank you LeMous.

I had thought that the doc would think we were wasting his time, but will take her if it continues.
We had a femele gp at our practice but she has just left, just hope dd will be ok with male doctor.

Yeah my daughter had the same thing and it went on a while, I even spoke to the nurse when i had gone for a smear test and she said nothing to worry about, but if it helps speak to the dr, they seem so young to be having these problems dont they at 9! My daughter is 12 now!! Time really flies!

My DD is just turning 8 and she told me around Christmas hers felt "weird" i had a look and noticed her getting little buds . I asked if they were sore and she said no just weird so I am going to just keep an eye on things . If they are painful enough to make her cry though I think it's perfectly reasonable to take a little trip to the gp .

Thanks for all the good comments.

It is so long since I experienced the early signs, I've forgotten what it was like. Speaks volumes though, it couldn't have been that bad, lol.

It is so reassuring to hear that this is happening to other DDs. My DD is 9 and every couple of months has pain in her breast bud area that continues for a few days. She is also very tearful. Am getting her to keep a diary so we can see if there is a pattern. Does anyone have a view as to how long after these things happen her periods might start ?

My DD is 12 in May. She has had breast buds and mood swings for about 18 months.
No sign of periods just yet. She is on the lower end of the charts for weight and I understand you need to be a certain weight to begin.

She does have copious amounts of discharge, she describes it as hopping, she is pube free although she does have a couple of black underarm hairs.

My DD complained of exactly the same thing around 8/9 years of age - I did go and see the Dr who said that it was breast buds. DD is now 10 (nearly 11) and wears crop tops (v good idea) & has started to develop (no periods yet). I think that it is all normal developmental stages & you just need to keep talking & reassuring.

I noticed dds breast buds when she was about 8. She is very skinny so it was fairly noticeable & yes hers hurt her from time to time. She started her periods just after her 10th birthday even though she doesn't really weigh enough iyswim.

Oh yes & dd wears bras now as its far more comfortable for her than crop tops.

I was about to start this exact thread! My daughter told me this week that her breast bud area was abit painful. I was shocked (didnt show it obviously), because I only started growing boobs when I was 11. Does this mean she will be developing boobs now? Isnt that abit young? I know girls are developing earlier these days, I just didnt expect it at 8, shes still my baby fgs!

I remember them being quite tender at that stage too.

Yup - my DD's 'miniboobs' used to hurt her about a year ago. Crop tops helped. She now has size Bs and has just started her periods. So about a year from 'miniboobs' and two pubes to 'all systems go'. I'm the one who started the 10 year old periods thread... lots of info there about stuff to look forward to :-/
