Had only been there less than half an hour, got a call he had fallen over, so upset had been sick twice and was still bleeding. Put sleeping mindee in buggy and literally ran there, burst into tears when I saw him. They then brought a boy in who was told to say sorry to ds. I said 'hang on I thought he had fallen over?', they mumbled something about they couldn't be sure but he had said sorry! Surely they wouldn't have made him apologise if they weren't sure!

Had to take him to minor injuries (didn't even have bus fare on me) to get him checked out. Apparently he had fell full force onto one of those metal hand rails.

The pic is from about 3pm, happened at 1pm, his eye could hardly open by the time he went to bed tonight!!

As a childminder if a kid even grazes their knee I (quite rightly) have to fill in a duplicateacccident form that parents sign and get a copy of. Didn't even get a note or anything. Had some terrible looks on way to clinic and back.

No didn't need a stitch, said if he did would be tricky as he is small and fidgety and right near his eye.

Said it may leave a scar though - which dp seems a little pleased about.

I am sure they should have got you to sign an accident book I had to when dd was at playschool.

Report
TellusMater · 23/01/2008 21:11

You should have been asked to fill in an accident form for sure.

Report
KaySamuels · 23/01/2008 21:11

Thats what I thought moodywren. Am getting quite agitated thinking about it tbh!

The poor soul, looks really sore.

Do they have no idea what happened? Was he able to tell you anything?

Report
ComeOVeneer · 23/01/2008 21:12

That's awful. Hope he isn't terribly sore. I would want to get to the bottom of exactly what happened (obviously today wasn't the right time I understand). BTW if you want to try and avoid scarring try Bio-oil.

Report
TellusMater · 23/01/2008 21:12

I would go in tomorrow and ask for the accident book.

Report
KaySamuels · 23/01/2008 21:14

He is at that stage where he tells you what he wants tbh, did ask him if little boy pushed him. He said yes in a very small sad voice. When I went back for older mindee first aider came to see him and said to another teacher 'oh he got pushed over in the quad'.

Poor DS

Suprised they ddn't have an accident book, esp for an injury like that.

Quite suprised they brought in the child who is supposed to have caused it, in front of you too. Don't think they normally identify the ther party.

Hope DS is feeling better soon

Can only use oilatum on precription anywhere on ds.

I'd write a calm but very, very serious letter to them saying that you were shocked at the extent of the injury, at the fact that they were unsure of how ds recieved said injury, at the fact that you weren't given an accident form, and at the fact that another child was brought in to apologize if they were not sure that he had been responsible. Don't be apologetic in the letter, or give them let-out possible explanations, and ask them for an urgent, written response.

They defFo should ahve got you to sign an accident book, our preschool does it even for minor cuts. Maybe in the panic of it all they forgot. Nag them when you next go back.

Poor little boy, looks sore and so close to his eye, I'd have cried too.

I have had to sign accident book for a scraped knee, so I am sure you should have signed it. Did they put a cold compress or anything on it?

Report
KaySamuels · 23/01/2008 21:17

I don't think the teacher thought I would be there yet (didn't recognise him tho as ds only been going a few weeks)), maybe that's why the teacher went all avoidy about it. Am hardly going to lynch another 3yr old am I?! Would just like a straight answer.

Seems strange that no one saw knows what happened but they still made someone apologise. Did the child even know what he was apologising for?
