DD has morning nursery place, DS been given afternoon place!

My dd has been going to the nursery attached to our local school for over a year, she has a morning place. I applied for a morning place for ds but the school say as mornings are full he can only have an afternoon place. Not ideal, as I'm now doing morning and afternoon school runs while trying to juggle part time work and study, and always have one child at home with me! I did contact the school and the education dept but both just said sorry can't do anything about it.

But there WERE some new starts in the mornings just before ds started in the afternoon. One of the new starts lives well outwith the catchment area, but was 3 before ds. The others live within the catchment but were also 3 before ds.

The school did offer dd an afternoon place as well but she took a long time to settle in the morning session and really don't want to go back to square one with her by moving her.

Anyone been in a similar position, and/or have any advice? Is the school within their rights to do this and I just have to accept it and stop moaning!? or could I challenge it further?

Appreciate any help or even just sympathy

I think perhaps putting your daughter in the afternoon session is the way to go - (I am a nursery nurse so have had experience of nurseries ) She will probably take to it like a duck to water - she will have the same teachers and the same routine just it will be done in the afternoon - and she will also have her brother to play with.

Good Luck

Can you try moving DD to afternoon sessions on a trial basis?

Hmmmm maybe you're right... Made decision to stick with her going mornings based on fact that she's 5 and is deferring school for a year so is very settled with her friends in the morning. Also, there are others deferring in the morning class too but none in the afternoon -the majority in the afternoon class are 3. I did wonder if she could do maybe 3 mornings and 2 afternoons though, which would help me out a bit. Not sure if the nursery would let her do this - do they have to do all mornings or all afternoons at school nurseries?
