Opinions needed please?

My dd started a new pre-school last Tues, she came home last Friday saying that they had watched a barbie film, today she said they had watched Finding Nemo.

She goes 5 sessions a week, 2 mornings and 3 afternoons.So obviously this menas every Friday (morn) they watch a childrens film of some sort, they are there from 9am to 12.30pm.

Am i being tetchy by being slightly annoyed by this?i just feel that they should be doing something a little more interesting, and also they are only there for 3.5 hours, what do you all think?

It's not what I would have expected.

I'd want them to do something they couldn't do at home I think. Something a bit messy, something that needs space.

Seems a bit of a waste.

Do they actually watch the whole film? At DS's preschool, they'd get to watch five minutes whilst they had their milk and biscuit. Of course, they don't need to watch TV whilst drinking milk but the staff seemed to find it calmed them down a bit. In Year 1, they then got the chance to watch a bit of a film if it was raining and they had to stay in for break time.

Thought i may be overreacting, but cannot believe they are sitting 15 kids down to watch a film! maybe i will have a word on Monday i think, Friday is the day when the manager isn't there too, so maybe she knows nothing about this

You are not being tetchy. They are being a bit lazy in letting the children watch TV.

They should be drawing/painting/playing... with the children. Otherwise you could save yourself the bother and keep your DD at home in front of the TV. (Not that I am recommending that!)

I wouldn't be happy. If anyone is going to benefit from my dcs being crashed out in front of tv then I want it to be me.

Ok i will have a word with the manager on Monday, good to have everyone confirm that i am not overreacting, so thankyou very much for that.

I would be really annoyed! The tv needs to be reserved for when I need to tidy the house! Or go on MN.

Can I just say - it has not been unknown in our family for preschool children to go into flights of utter fantasy about what they did at nursery. I would be rather annoyed if my children had been watching DVDs at nursery - that's what home is for ffs - but I would also wonder if said child's imagination wasn't running away with her.

Rosa...I am 99% sure dd isn't making it up iykwim, but i will ask on Monday if it is true and take it from there i guess.

No tv or films that I have ever heard of here - cbeebies website sometimes with games, but no tv - more structured or free play activity.

I would be a bit perturbed by this too. They are professional childminders not babysitters.

Not sure what you could do except change if you really object - but be sure to tell them why if you do.

I hve never heard of this before. This is a complete cop-out and worthy of our utter disdain.

TV is reserved for our needs - not theirs.

How dare they spoil our kids with our get out clause?
