Ds has just finished school nursery and he didn't need a bag. He was given a plastic wallet to take a story book home in each week and I could have bought him a book bag to replace this but didn't . He needed a bag with a change of clothes which was left there for the year and another bag for his plimsols as they couldn't wear outdoor shoes inside. This was also left there for the year. The only item he brought each day was a bottle of water but I carried that .

I would say yes. They generally need a change of clothes, sun cream in the summer and they sometimes bring storybooks or artwork home.

I would say yes for a different reason. They often like to take something in from home to make them feel a bit more connected. It's often a kind of security blanket to have a special thing from home in the hall on their peg. If he's a bit nervous you can put his favourite toy in there or a snack for when mummy picks up.

Agree with bag contents of Island and MrsM. At our very informal pre-school, children use open topped vinyl/nylon shopping bags, large gift-bags or washing powder boxes covered with pictures from CBeebies . And they have their name in HUGE letters on the side.

The teachers then fill them with pictures (paint is usually still wet) or craft things (glue is usually still wet) or cakes/biscuits they've made (icing is usually still wet).

The moral is. Don't get a posh bag!

was just going to look at a cheapy swim type bag that I wouldnt be too bothered about getting ruined etc. I think I will get one as he would use it on days out etc anyway as he likes to carry his own bits and pieces.
