Nursery Attendance: How strict are most places?

I just learned my 3 yo dd has got into our local nursery. They had originally scoffed at the thought she might get in in September and said most likely January. So, with this in mind, we arranged a holiday for October. Does anyone know if nurseries in your experience are as strict about attendance as schools for older children? We booked 2 weeks off, and have bought our tickets already. Thanks.

Nursery is not compulsory, just politely tell them your plans.

Is it a private nursery? Dd goes to one and frequently has time off. AFAIK they don't bother (as long as you let them know)as they still get paid and can often offer that place to other children in an emergency/last minute care (which means they get paid twice for one place but never mind)

There is no legal requirement for children under 5 to be in nursery/pre-school. So they won't be worried at all - just let them know. Our DS1 is going to miss 3 weeks of pre-school in September, I just wrote in their diary that he wouldn't be in those days. No comments or worried from pre-school. You will still have to pay for the place though. Also one of your weeks might be in half term anyway, and if it's an LEA pre-school it won't run in half term.

it s upsetting though for the children they feel they are missing out on projects.and it s a pain for the teacher too;here today gone tomorrow...it s not easy to build a good group atmosphere if there is too much coming and going.And yes,I am a nursery teacher

Shouldn't be a problem with the Nursery.

But might be worth bearing in mind that your DD may well only just be finding her feet when you go on holiday.

I would request a start date on return from hols, but that is what I would do.

I have taken dd1 out of her preschool fairly frequently. I also don't send her if she is particularly tired.
