Hi - can't help but I have recently made enquiries at our local Montessori school(in Kent) so I shall watch this thread with interest!

Well. My eldest 2 went to one. But it wasn't there for DS#2 when he started a year ago.

It seemed to be be quite structured - an hour of sitting down 'work' first thing in the morning. My DS#1 hated it - it was too structured for him and I really don't think it benefitted him much. DD loved it. There was no outside space at all which bothered me a bit but as they were only there about 8 hours a week I thought it would be OK. The best thing about the nursery was the lady in charge and she was lovely. And some of the fantastic educational toys they used.

DS#2 went to a new children's centre and the difference was striking. It was much more open, relaxed and DS#2 loved it and really seemed to grow in the year he was there. Both my eldest were quite about it.

I've read about Maria Montessori and a lot of her ideas are wonderful but I think it must vary from school to school. Ours suited DD and not DS. Judge it on it's merits rather than assume it's going to be X or Y because of the name.

My DD attends a Montessori Nursery and to be honest, I am not sure what they do differently to the majority of non-Montessori Nurseries! I know they have slightly more structured days but to be fair, my daughter has thrived in hers and I would not hesitate to recommend her nursery to anyone.

I would have sent her to this Nursery whether it was Montessori or not, it is the best nursery for miles so really, your decision should be made on your impressions and not whether it is Montessori or not.
