no.
just rise above it, say "I'm really sorry I have hardly managed to send a card to great aunt agatha, dd isn't sending them to anyone either"

unless dd wants to do it off her own bat (if she is eg 8)

they have made a papier mache post box and it stands proud at the door for all the little 4 yr olds to post their cards for their classmates

but i just cant get over this list i have been handed of all the names of the preschoolers

how presumptious

and i cant afford another pack of cards, sorry

dd1 can pick 3 or 4 special friends if she really really wants to

Can you imagine all these pre-schoolers gravely thanking each other for their Christmas cards?! The round robins would be funny though: "this year I have been mostly finger painting and dressing teddy up as a fairy princess".

am amazed you were given a list....your school will not give out a class list for any reason........

and no, you don;t need to buy another 20 kids...these are preschoolers...they can;t read or write yet !!!!! don't really think they will care if they get cards or not!

I have always refused to do cards at school until they are old enough to do them themselves.

then they get a 24 pack of really cheap ones from somewhere or other.

and they have proved to be far too lazy to write more than 4 or 5 each

I would buy some cheap ones and do them with him (in fact I am doing it, we are making our own - gruesome-looking things, but the kids like them). It's a good opportunity for ds1 to see reading/writing in an applied context - he actually wants to have a go at reading, copying and writing the other kids' names and making up a little message to go in each card. It doesn't take long. I don't see the harm - no-one is making you do it, if you don't want to, don't!

[what is wrong with a list per se? we get one with names, addresses and phone numbers at the beginning of every term - how else do you know who to invite to a birthday party etc?]

maybe a few parents have asked for names of all children because they want to give cards to all (so that none are left out) and preschool have thought it easier just to give a list of names to everyone so they don't get asked today, then next week, then the week after iyswim.

im not making 20-odd cards

we are making cards for gran, daddy etc but i am NOT doing that for 20 classmates

i may just wait and see if dd1 asks to send cards to her mates

no happy big girl, you will make the other mums feel inadequate and someone will post a thread on mumsnet saying "some 4 yr old has lovingly made handmade cards for EVERYONE in pre-school, what IS the mother thinking, why can't she buy cheap crappy ones like everyone else"

miserable lot

My DSs loved getting their own personal christmas cards in Nursery, and it's nice of the teacher to pre-empt getting asked for a class list. Go to Tescos, they do a pack of 30 cards for 48p - ideal for this sort of thing, on the other hand you can just ignore it

Surely you don't have to if you don't want to? The kids are too little to get offended if they don't get a card from everyone. As long as they all get some and those who want to do them get to do them, where's the harm?

If I was working, or just very busy, or didn't enjoy this sort of thing, I wouldn't do it and I wouldn't feel guilty about it. I hope the preschool have just supplied the list because those who wanted it requested it, rather than to guilt-trip everyone else into doing cards if they don't want to.
