Hi - we have 'job descriptions' for our Officers ie Treasurer etc but don't have one for the Chair. Would anyone like to see our Treasurer or Administrator descriptions? and can anyone help me in writing one for the Chair??

Look on the NCPTA website - www.ncpta.org.uk
The Charity Commission also have info on the role of Charity Trustees. Did you know that if your income exceeds £1000 in any 12 month period then by law you must register as a charity?

Who handles job interviews, checking references, CRB checks, advertising? Needs to be chair or treasurer.

Chair must known group constitution, and insure it's followed.

Main job of chair is to liase with everybody else, pick up the pieces where ncessary and try to delegate if at all possible.

Treasurer should review spending and procurement.

Somebody needs to have the duties wrt legal work, like the lease.

Chair sets agenda for meetings, too.

post the descriptions you have up here & I'm sure you'll get feedback.

Ooh, that's organised, Fimbo. Do many committees do that?

I don't know. No 2 committees seem to be run in the same way.

We have:-
Chairperson
Secretary (only takes minutes at meeting)
Playgroup Register Secretary
Parent Helper Rota Secretary
Staffing Officer
Treasurer
Health & Safety Officer
Fundraising Officer (x 2)

Thanks for the comments. We are a registered charity. We have
Chair - runs meetings, sets agendas, interviews staff (with another usually), manages staff (with dc), advertises and recruits staff, responsible for policies in Operational Plan.
Treasurer - sends staff hours to accountant monthly, does budget, supervises administrator
deputy Chair - manages staff
Fundraiser - gets team together to write off, organises smaller fundraisers
May Fayre organiser - co-ordinates everyone for this
Trip organisor

Paid staff - Administrator - does waiting list with Supervisor, does petty cash and books, amends and prints stuff like register, staff rota, policies etc

Fimbo, does your Chairperson not do ANY staff management? Do they manage you? (are you the ex-chair?)

No, don't manage me nor am I ex-chair!

I (apparently!) manage the staff! Although the Chairperson will liase with me regarding new staff etc. I will sit on the interview panel though. (There is a job coming up in the near future).

I had to clear out a cupboard at home to fit all "my files" in! I will be glad when September comes and ds is off to the school nursery!

We have only had this arrangement for the last year - prior to that the Chair did EVERYTHING (that was her personality) except for admissions which the (paid) Supervisor did.
