i am worried about my child getting sun burnt in the playground, are there shelters to provide shade? I'm unsure which school to put my child into next year and really worried as i have heard stories of children getting burnt in playgrounds? Or shall i just apply suntan lotion to my child when it is sunny? unsure what to do?

in my nursery we signed a sheet to give them permission to apply sun lotion, also they never let them out without a hat

Apply a 6 hour sun cream before school...

Kids need to be out and about in the sunshine - not sitting undercover all the time... Supply a hat with neck cover and a top with long sleeves - should not be a problem..

You need to visit several schools and ask them questions like this. Policies may vary.

Most nurseries will apply sun cream but schools tend not to so you will either need to do it before school or teach your child how to apply it themselves.

Most schools have some shade in the playground but not all. Request a visit to see for yourself.

Our school does not have any shade as such although on days when they are allowed on the grass they can play in the shade of the trees

I would whack a load of suntan lotion on and check with the school regrading their policy on reapplying the stuff

Try not to worry, we don't have too many instances of sunburn in our school (can't think of any)

Not sure how this question can be answered since every school's playground will be different & they will also have different policies on sun cream. Best bet is to put on a long lasting sun cream, give your child a hat, and talk with your child about how important it is to wear it. Talk to the school about their policies.
