When do the 'ma' and 'da' start???

Everywhere I see says 6-9 months. Ds is now 13 months (12 corrected) and although he is very vocal and uses a lot of inflections in his voice, all he seems to be able to say is ga, ga, ga. Is this a problem??

He recently had a development test, using bits and pieces of the Bayley's test and there didn't seem to be any problems except with his gross motor skills that are lagging a bit behind. They are calling him back in 3 months.

Do I just have a late talker? I would have thuoght that ga was harder to say than da [hmmm]

Yes he saw his ped a couple of weeks ago and he put down on his notes that ds is vocalising but not making any recognisable noises to me. Think between that and his gross motor skills is why he's getting called back, as I thought his last appt was to get him signed off his ped.

Thanks dior. I suppose I'm just looking for a little reassurance that other babies talk later than the 9 month mark that they give. Intelligence wise he seemed to do ok at the tests, in fact surprised me with some of the things he could do.

I didn't make any notes of when my DD (26 weeker) started to make recognisable sounds - so I can't remember. However my nearly 16 month old, full term DS doesn't say anything that I can decipher. I usually have to just try and see what he's pointing and grunting at... He was a late walker too, only just getting the hang of it enough to prefer it to crawling. I'm sure he'll start talking soon enough.
