Car Seats

Looking for some advice regarding car seats.

I have a Quinny Buzz 4 and the infant seat to go with it is a Maxi-Cosy Cabriofix. To be honest I'm not fussed about making my pram a travel system as dont like the look of the infant seat.

I have found a car seat from birth to 4yrs (approx) Britax First Class Plus which comes in at around £140.

I was wondering what is better to use as a car seat the maxi-cosy or the Britax? Been stuck on deciding what to buy

Maxi Cosi performs excellently in crash tests; I honestly wouldn't bother to get another carseat.

Why don't you like the look of it?

mrsgboring I saw a baby in one at the Glasgow Pram centre on Sunday when I was there and the poor thing looked way too big for it, didn't look very comfortable. I would have to buy the Maxi Cosi for £99 so didn't know whether the added expense would be better

If the baby didn't seem upset by it, then it probably wasn't.

Sometimes it can be handy to have a lift-out carseat for times when the baby is asleep (though I don't like to overuse this feature of carseats)

I think, but I'm not sure because I don't have access to Which any more that MaxiCosi was one of the top performers in crash tests but that particular Britax was not.

If you have Isofix points in your car, I'd definitely go for the Maxi Cosi and have the added flexibility of the smaller carseat, and the security of knowing you're using one of the safest infant carseats on the market.

Just for info: MaxiCosi is still the Which best buy for infant seats and they are £88 from kiddicare.

lauraloo - you'll have to buy another seat once your dc gets to 4 so bear that in mind. We went for a baby car seat (rear facing which clips into a base which was a godsend) then went for the Britax one that is a group 1, 2 and 3 seat. I.e. will take him through until he can sit without a seat.

The base for us was brilliant. Whilst everyone else was faffing about strapping the baby in, or pulling seatbelts around, we just strapped baby in whilst indoors then lifted the seat onto the base and clicked it into place.

Just our experience.

The britax first class didn't score very well in the which report, it wasn't the best as either a 0-9 and it wasn't great forward facing either and as you'll have the seat you'll be tempted to turn it around too early, they should be rear facing until at least 15 months and have excellent head control
