Not gaining weight...

Hi all

I'm 18 + 4. I have only gained a total of about 10 pounds so far but I have gained nothing in about 2 weeks.

Should I be worried about the size of the baby? I feel it wiggle, so I know its doing something in there, but if I'm not gaining weight, maybe its not gaining weight?

I am diabetic, so I am on a very controlled diet right now, so maybe that's it?

Any thoughts?

Hiya,
I wouldn't worry TBH. I am 29 weeks and up until a couple of weeks ago I had only put on a total weight gain of 14 pounds.

I queried this with my midwife as this is my 4th and with all my others I put on loads. She was quite happy, just said I was all baby. Measured the fundel height and I am right on track for dates. She just said I will have less to lose when the baby gets here.

I also had several weeks where I didn't seem to put on any weight at all. But... this last couple of weeks I have been starving and seem to be putting more on.

HTH

You're only 'supposed' to gain 5 lbs up to 20 weeks, so you are gaining!

I think 10 pounds is fine. With my first and third pg I didn't gain all that much tbh, but did notice an acceleration of weight gain in the 3rd trim. If you feel well and the baby is active I shouldn't worry - baby's obviously getting all it needs

I'm 22 weeks and have put on 9 pounds.

Having put on loads of weight in first pregnancy, I'm being careful to only eat healthy stuff this time around.

Baby is fine.

I didn't gain at all when I was pregnant with DD. I was the same weight at 9 weeks as at 40 weeks. She was a good weight and perfectly healthy.

I put on no weight, or perhaps a couple of pounds, in my first trimester, and then only about 1lb a week (on average) until 40weeks.

Sounds fine and normal to me.

Some people lose weight in pregnancy, particularly if they were overweight to begin with, and start eating healthily and stop drinking for baby's sake.

I'm 29 weeks and haven't put on anything in the past 3 weeks or so - I think it is just a post-Christmas readjustment back to 'normal'

Sorry misread the diabetic bit, unlikely to be the case for you. However, it took me till 16 weeks to get back to pre-pg weight. The baby takes what it needs.

I am 14 weeks and I have put on a total of 1.5lbs which at first concerned me as I have been eating like a horse and we have also had Christmas. But my MW explained that before I got pregnant I had PCOS which made my body mess with my insulin and encouraged weight gain - I lost 2 1/2 stone out of the 6 recommended by the fertility specialist to get pregnant.(sorry she gave me lots more detail but too much to go into!)
Anyway now that I don't have PCOS - as I am pregnant - my body is doing what normal people do and my metabolism has gone up - she seems to think I may even lose weight in the form of fat now my hormones are being regulated by the pregnancy and that if I had been a skinny minnie she would have worried but I as I am still a bit of a heffer not to worry. She also said that the baby is like a little parasite that takes the best and leaves you everything else so the baby will not suffer - and if I end up slimmer yippee - who knows!

I lost weight with DD at the beginning. Then was exactly the same weight when I gave birth as I was when I conceived. When DD was born I lost nearly 11lbs. DD weighed 7lb 3ounces when she was born.

As long as you are eating a healthy diet and your MW has no concerns I would say don't worry about it.

Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy.

I'm a bit confused. I was never weighed ever during any of my pg's.

How do you know what you weigh? I mean do you stand on scales all the time and more importantly WHY would you want to now how much you weigh?!!!!!

I lost weight during the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy, due to various minor bugs, lots of nausea etc. However, I am now 32 weeks and I have gained over a stone and a half. Seriously, don't worry. You'll catch up and want to hit the next person who tells you how ENORMOUS your bump is in no time!!
