Mentioned to the midwife when I saw her on Tuesday that I thought I was getting abit of a cold, she said just drink plenty of fluids and get some rest. Done that, but since last night it's turned into a full blown case of Womanflu, I have the shakes, a temp but I feel freezing, runny nose, banging headache and i'm aching from head to toe

Paracetamol does nothing for me, and I don't wanna take anything stronger. Anyone got any 'home remedy' tips to take the edge off it abit so that tonight I could maybe get more than 30 minutes sleep?

oh I FEEL your pain. Am just coming out of flu, today is the first day I have been out of bed and feeling slightly more human. I have the following tips:

  • Do take the max amount of paracetamol in a day. I spoke to the doctor about my concerns over this and he said it was fine - and the only way to keep your temperature down. AND it's better for bambino that you don't have a temperature
*steam inhilation... a pain in the butt although very effective. Either Vicks or Olbas Oil boiling water and sniff away
*hot water bottle (just warm though)
  • sleep
  • fluids
*make sure you DO rest as you don't want it to turn into an infection - i think I'm one phlegm filled cough away from a chest infection and don't want to take any antibiotics.

I know you don't feel like it will pass but it will, I thought I was about to shuffle off on Monday I felt so dreadful, but hang in there and you'll be feeling human in a couple of days. How many weeks prg are you?
    for you...

I'd second the steam inhalation.
Also, Olbas Oil for night time to help you breath.
Sleeping is the best way through it.
It will go, but is rotten.
Poor you.

Oh I am so with you, I feel your pain.... I have raging temerature, ache all over, chest infection and sneezing. Truly had enough (and with a 1 yr old and 3yr old to look after too I have become entirely dependant on CBeebies!).

I went to the chemist today and the pharmacist said I really shouldn't take anything except paracetamol. Even Lemsip and most throat sweets are out due to the decongestant.

So it's olbas oil and paracetamol and lots of herbal tea - which really isn't doing much for me. I'm also really hoping the chest infection doesn't get worse as I'd prefer to avoid having to take antibiotics. It's just hell.....

Auntyspan i'm only 9+5. Just worried over the temperature really after some miscarriage horror stories on google popped up, and that's the last thing I want again

I can just about cope with sniffles/aches ( have to after insisting that DP stops moaning about his ) but the feeling freezing but hot to touch is really doing my head in! Think i'll have some paracetmol and hot Lucozade and crawl into bed..
