anyone else gained 8 kilos in 10 weeks in 2nd trimester? Worried!

I'm now 25 weeks pg. At beginning of pg weighed 55 kg. I am one of those skinny types who has to eat every 2 seconds.

By week 15 still weighed 55 kg because of morning sickness.

But then sickness stopped, and at 25 weeks, I now weigh 63 kilos. I'm eating loads, as is normal for 2nd trimester, but just wondered why it's so dramatic.

This is second pg and with my son I weighed 55 at the beginning and the weight was gained much more gradually, and I was 63 kg when I gave birth, not as early as this.

Does this mean I will gain another 8-10 before the birth? That would be ridiculous!

Anyone had similar experiences and is it a problem? I am eating healthy food plus a lot of junk, and exercising vigorously 3-4 times per week..

Gem , you sound exactly like me. With DD I put on 25 kilos to take me to 70. It all came off again within 14 months quite naturally so don't worry. I find this to be the case with many skinnier women, they tend to gain more than their curvier counterparts, but lose it easier. Not sure why.
I'm 21 weeks now and have gained 6 kilos already and fully anticipate getting as large again. Especially with Christmas coming.

The three Cadbury flakes before bedtime probably didn't help though.

I was about 54kg at the beginning of each pg (am now 31 weeks into my second pregnancy). With both I did most of my weight gain in the second trimester - went up to about 67kg in the first and I'm about 63kg now with a couple of months to go! You might find, like me, that the weight gain slows down in the third trimester and you'll only gain a few more. I think PYL is right, slimmer women tend to gain more so don't worry - if it all came off last time it will again! (I went all the way down to about 51kg by the time my DD was a year old).....Funnily enough I don't feel that big, I just have a big boobs and tummy but think overall I still look fairly slim (hmm or perhaps pregnancy hormones have made me delusional )

Gemzooks I know exactly how you feel. Not as skinny as you - was 61kg when got pregnant but now at 29 weeks am 71kg the vast majority of that gained since about 18-19 weeks. Am only hoping that my weight gain slows as I was really worried last night that I am going to be well out of the 11-15kg that the midwife recommended...and don't know what to do. I've kept up doing some exercising - an aerobics class and walking for 30-40 mins 4 times a week, but have just ballooned....

that does - believe me it does - but how long has it taken?

it took about 10/12 weeks - mainly due to lots of walking and stair climbing and a relatively healthy diet (but I couldnt forgo choccy biscuits). I wasn't b/f though after 6 weeks.

lol don't think so - but you're exercising now. If you ask me that makes all the difference to it dropping off and recovery (vindicated by coffee morning mum chat - one friend reckons its gone quciker on her second than her first cos of this).

would also recommend pilates (or body balance) to help

thanks all!

Just to add, it took about 9 months for me to go back to pre preg weight and figure, and that's with regular running and exercise.. But it happened in the end. when I stopped bf at 1 year the rest of the weight dropped off..

I gained loads of weight when preg - 30kilos or more. I just went with it & with bf it's mostly come off.

Once I also gained 10 kilos in 4 wesuper quick. My doc did nothing but at my next check up I had a thyroid test. This showed I had a low thyroid & needed medication. Was very low. Ask your doc about this.
