Clomid Cramps

Hi I went off the pill over a year ago and never had a period in that time, i went to see a specialist who done blood tests and prescribed clomid, he told me i could start it immediately, my next app with the specialist is in january which is when i'll get the results of my tests. As i had no period i could take the clomid anytime and was told to count it as cycle day 1, i took 50mg for 5 days so my last pill was on 14th Nov. I was taking my temperature but i took a cold around about the time the doc said i should ovulate which threw my temps off so im not actually sure if i ovulated or not. however on the 23rd nov i took lower abominal cramps which lasted about 4/5 days, has anyone on clomid had these or know what causes them? also it is now the 5th dec and still no period, i was advised if nothing happens to take a second course of 50mg, so i was wondering when should i test for pregnancy before knowing it is safe to take my next course?

Test first - cramps can occur but you may have struck lucky first time

Now is a good time to test

do u think its ok to test now, its not too early? i always read you can test as early as the first day of a missed period but i have no clue what my cycle length would be because its been about 6 years from i had a natural period.

You can get tests that can test earlier than that I think - up to 4 or 5 days before your period is due. Not sure if that helps? I'd definitely try testing before taking another course though.

thanks ladies, have yous taken clomid before? how soon did you take ur second course? its 21 days from i took my last pill, ive read you can start the next couse at least 30 days, but is that from the last pill or from the first pill? the suspence is killing me, id love to take a test but i know i should probably wait to right before i want to take my second course just in case

I have taken it yes, but can't remember about dates - it was about 4 years ago now. I think it was from about day 14 of my cycle - does that sound right? I'd maybe ask your GP or whoever prescribed the clomid to you for advice?

Anyway, it worked for us - I conceived on the 2nd cycle so fingers crossed for you too. And the first pg seemed to sort my cycle out too - I was pg again 5 months after ds1 was born .

you need to wait until you have a period before you take clomid and if your not having periods then you need to get a prescription for provera to bring a bleed on- you cant just take clomid like that it doesnt work like that- am confused why you werent given provera- i had 5 cycles of clomid and in that time i was told I had to wait for a period before i could start the next dose or else take provera - speak to your consultant about this- i know first hand that it is devastating when clomid does not work and dont want you to waste a cycle taking it if it doesnt have a chance to work-please talk to your consultant...

Thanks lorelie, i went to my doc about 2 weeks ago and told him i had read that some people are given a pill to start a bleed before taking the next course, he seemed to reckon that wasnt totally necessary, he told me to take a pregnancy test before i start my next course, if its neg i can go ahead so im a bit confused. im not due to see my specialist again until mid january and he told me if the first course isnt successful take a 2nd course of 50mg, if that fails take 100mg the following month. so my doc has give me a prescription for another 2 courses although i will see my specialist b4 my third cycle. i am now on day 29, definately no sign of a period.

hmm thats a tricky one- if this is the case then how are you meant to know when to take it? my consultant told me to take them day 1-5 of my cycle so I guess I assumed its tied into this somehow but never questioned this, not sure when you would take them again then, as in when your day 1-5 would be- surely cant be just from whenever.. i dunno..
as for me i have been on clomid about 8 months but just 5 cycles as in between on the 3 months I didn't ovulate I was advised to wait for my period to come or take provera and I decided to wait for it to come naturally each time but then again it didn't work so maybe its ok to just go ahead with it. I am now on day 40 since starting my last round of clomid at 150mg - no bfp and just waiting- moving onto injections next i think. Can you ring your specialist just to check? any possibility you are pg already? good luck!

hi lorelie,

phoned yesterday, my specialist wasnt there but another one told me that usually its taken cd2 so i should have taken it last sat assuming a 28 day cycle but i told her i hadnt a period in over a year and i had no idea if ive ovulated but no period had come so she said take in on 4th jan cuz i likeley missed this months cycle, im confused how would she know that its a total guess. im on cd33 today no period and woke last night with an awful stomach ache. i asked her about cramps i had around cd 19-24 she said its normail on clomid. sometimes it due to overstimulation but this wasnt likely on the 50mg tablet. she said to take a pregnancy test nest week but suspense is killing me and i want to start my seconf course monday cus it will have been 30 days from my last pill. what do you think i should do?
