Progesterone question

Hi there - wonder if anyone can help?

I found out yesterday that I am pregnant (today I would be Day30). I have had 2 miscarriages in the past two years, no children as yet. Both miscarriages were at 8 weeks. Had recurrent miscarriage tests completed and everything came back normal.

Had a 21 day test completed (Progesterone) last week before I knew I was pregannt. I asked the Consultant what the figures would be in a safe zone and she said between 30 and 100. Got my count back today and it was 31. Is this figure ok or borderline and I should take further? The midwife who gave me the number said it was "OK" when I asked her.

Sorry, would just like any of your opinions if you can help?

Many thanks
amelied

Hi amelied

Many congratulations on your pregnancy.

I am currently nearly 11 weeks pregnant and like you have no LC. Had several M/C and Neo-natal death. So this time the doctors have put me on a mixture of things including progesterone. I don't know the answer to your question I'm afraid and different consultants have expressed different opinions to me about using it, but the consultant at the fertility clinic I attend seemed to have no objection and obviously use it to support the 1st trimester with IVF pregnancies.
I have found a few problems with it, its made my muscles very achy in my tummy as it apparently relaxes the muscles more and you have to use them twice a day and can get thrush etc from them. But if its doing the job then it is worth it. I have been told to come off the progesterone at 14 weeks. I am also on aspirin, heparin & steroids.

Why don't you speak to your doctor again and ask to have the test repeated, you might find that the level of progesterone has now increased in your body as on day 21 your pregnancy would not of been established and it might be much lower then??? If it hasn't increased much I would ask about the benefits of using in in the first trimester.

All the best Xxx

RahRah1 many thanks for your honest advice and congratulations to you too - well done on the 11 week mark.

I am going to phone tomorrow and ask for an appoinment or even a telephone call with the Consultant - appointment waiting time is on average 12 weeks!

Thank you so much for replying.

Sorry for late response - just trawling through threads.
Also had 2 previous M/Cs at 8 weeks. Have a progesterone level of 2 . Didn't take progesterone with M/C's but did with this 1 - and am 35 weeks pregnant!
Took 400 mg a day (2 x 200 I think) - used both front & back ways to avoid thrush.
Finished at 10 weeks when the placenta takes over and you don't need the progesterone any longer.
Good luck with Consultant.
