Leg pains at night - not cramp - at 35 wks +

Anyone else had this?

My leg feels fine during the day but at night my left knee really hurts. Sometimes it's my knee, sometimes a bit highter up. It's fine when I go to sleep but it often wakes me up in the early hours. It can be really painful, but if I get out of bed and walk about, it disappears really quickly.

It's driving me mad, as my sleep is broken enough with endless trips to the loo etc, and I wondered if anyone else has had this, amnd more to the point, whether they found a cure!!

I also get restless / twitchy legs in the evening - nto sure if they're related.

I'm 36+3 wks now, and it's been going on for a few weeks, but seems to be getting worse. I've read scary things about thrombosis etc, but surely that sort of pain wouldn't disappear during the day???

Are you sure it isn't cramp? I get cramp just above the knee in the middle of the night quite a lot. Oh, and restless legs - v v annoying. Sleeping with a pillow between my legs helps a bit.

I'm not an expert, but it doesn't sound like a thrombosis to me. I've had a DVT in pregnancy and the pain was worse during the day (since I'd been standing). You'd expect the pain to lessen at night since you're putting less pressure on the veins. However, why not mention it to your midwife/GP? Better to be safe...

I keep forgetting to mention it to the midwife as during the daytime it doesn't bother me at all - must try to remember next time!!

I googled it after I posted, and it seems to be quite common, and may be caused by a lack of calcium. So I think I'll up the dairy and see if that helps. I agree it doesn't sound like thrombosis, so I think I'll just have to put up with it - not too long to go now!

Fingers crossed!!
