had been having backache/contractions since friday night.

they asked me to go in to check i did not have a UTI.(I don't)

when i was on the monitor I was showing strong (ish) regular contractions. MW said tehy weren't lasting long enough for me to be in true labour.
she gave me a vaginal exam and said she could feel the head had come down (this is my second baby) but cervix was still posterior

Feel a bit deflated now as i thought it was all starting....nothing really happened to speak of last night - still getting the odd contraction but not as regular...

I suppose what I want to know is
with your second does it mean anything significant when the head is right in the pelvis?

How many weeks are you?

If baby is head down and low then that is a good sign but you obviously still have a bit of waiting if the cervix is posterior.

Try and keep as active as you can.
Do you have a birth ball or a rocking chair?
If you do, try sitting and rocking the pelvis to get things moving.

Hi gem,

I don't think the baby's head being in the pelvis means anything significant, I have a friend who's baby's head was engaged at 30 weeks but wasn't born until 41 weeks (her second baby). All my babies have been engaged from around 36 weeks, but not born until after 40 weeks. I'm two days off my due date now and the baby's head is so low I'm waddling , and have been having painful braxton hicks for quite a while, but still nothing happening!

It's so frustrating waiting isn't it?

Well DS was engaged for twelve weeks before being extracted through the catflap route.

Sorry.

gem

I had a VERY posterior cervix with DS and was 3/5 palpable. I gave birth 9 hours after the examination.

With DD I refused internals but was 3/5 palpable on admission to the birth centre. I gave birth half an hour later.

These things are indication tools but don't offer any certainty.

Good luck!
