Hi ladies, I have a DS of 8 months and am pg again with no2 we have moved from Scotland to Spain since DS's birth and as we are not yet residents, we are paying privatley for care. The consultant here has told me I have polycysctic ovaries which is not entirely a surprise as both my sisters do but as a result he has prescribed me progestrone and says I need to take it until I am 10 weeks. Anyone have any expereince of taking it whilst pg? thanks

I'm taking it - two 200mg cyclogest pessaries a day - not for PCOS but because I've had a couple of losses. My GP prescribed it for me. They can you make you constipated & cause bloating & breast tenderness but I haven't noticed any awful side effects.

Thanks ladies

I've had a loss too Joyfuleyes sorry to hear about yours My dose is 200mg/day orally.

Surprisenumber3 & FruitynNutty - the consultant did say that the treatment wasn't used that much in the UK but the thinking here is that it is helpful.

Ladies - I have PCOS - have trouble getting pregnant & keeping them.
Was prescribed progesterone (cyclogest pessaries) from 4 weeks until 10 weeks this time. Am now 26 weeks and doing well. Better safe than sorry.
Ladies with pcos often don't produce enough progesterone to support an early pregnancy. I believe the placenta takes over at 10 wks so the extra support is not needed from that point on.

Hi there, i'm going to ask rather a personal question if you don't mind, but will explain why first! My pregnancy was unplanned and I was on the pill for the first three months - I suspect I was actually pregnant before I even started taking this (gulp!). My pill contained a higher proportion of progesterone than oestrogen. Anyway, my point is that while I was pregnant and on the pill I had a rather strong smell down there IYSWIM! No sign of infection, and I even had a full sexual health check just to make sure as the smell was so strong. I am sure this was due to the high level of hormones in my body wth being pregnant and on the pill. From a scientific viewpoint I am curious to know whether RosyBelle, you experienced anything similiar! I hope my question doesn't offend.

Hi Ginni, No doesn't offend
I was on 400mg a day as pessaries which could be placed front or back passage
No smell for me I'm afraid so can't really help. Has it gone now that you have stopped taking the pill?? At least you know the progesterone won't have done any harm as some of us have to take it. Hormones do strange things!

yes, it completely went as soon as I stopped taking the pill, it was very odd.

Thanks RosyBelle and so glad to hear all is going well for you this time the pills I?ve been given can be taken orally or vaginally but the Dr told me that it makes no difference so I?ve, funnily enough, been taking them orally.

Ginni ? no issues like that here sorry but I have noticed and have noticed when pg before that my sense of smell is so acute I can smell other people?s breath from quite a distance (which isn?t always nice ) maybe you are just super sensitive to smells? Congrats to you too
