Pains in the bump

Hello Ladies

I'm 30 weeks with my first and have been having pains in my bump for the last few days.

I am very big for my dates and have a large football shaped bump and am otherwise still very slim. These pains are at the bottom of the bump, at both sides.

Due to my build and the size and shape of the bump I do feel that there is a tremendous weight in this one area and wonder whether it is just muscles/ligaments straining under the pressure or something more serious.

I don't want to waste my Drs/midwifes time but on the other hand don't want to ignore it if it's not just a normal side effect so any advice would be gratefully received

Many thanks

Hi,

I would expect it is just ligaments/muscles straining with the new weight they're carrying (of the baby!) and nothing to worry about. However i expect you're due for your next m/w apt in the next week so i'd speak to her about it. I've been getting really bad pains - very sharp almost like period pains and am 26 weeks. Saw m/w last week and she said it was just muscles stretching etc.

Hope you're sorted soon

Sounds very normal to me and exactly like the pains I felt in all 3 of my pregnancies which were exactly as you say the ligaments stretching, muscles pulling etc.

Could also be braxton hicks - mine are quite painful there. Does your whole bump go hard and you're breatjhless at the same time?

I think everyone is right, it's your ligaments and muscles stretching. However, you would not be wasting your mw's time to call het up and ask her about it. It's her job, it's what she is there for

thanks everyone

I don't think it's braxton hicks as the bump doesn't go hard but it sounds like it's fairly common. I've got a GP appointment next week though so I will mention it then.

Thanks again

Sounds so similar to what I have been experiencing, mainly in the middle of the night. Absolutely normal, if totally uncomfortable.

One thing to bear in mind, I have suffered from two water infections whilst pregnant. The cramping and tenderness of your bladder and all your other very sensitive bits down there, can feel exactly like this as well. The last one, I was in so much pain i went to the triage section at the hosp. It was not nice. Extra strong antibiotics and cocodamol got rid of it a few days later, but it felt like an extreme version of the muscley pains I was getting before. They checked to make sure the pains weren't stimulating my body for labour (just like orgasm can etc).

Your HC people should do a dip test just to rule it out. Turn up with a urine sample and they are likely to check it. If it is, the ABs are necessary.

Hope you feel OK
