Pre-natal depression - or just a raging ball of hormones!

Please tell me this is normal as my OH thinks i need to be sectioned!!!

I am really blissfully happy right now, expecting DC3, DD2 is about the start school, i'm planning my wedding to OH next year and we've just had a lovely holiday BUT i keep getting really really down!!

I can have a great day and see friends and get everything done, cook a fab dinner etc but then post 6pm i seem to have a complete breakdown! all it takes is for DS to mess about going to bed (coming down for 5 glasses of water) or for OH to leave a t shirt of a pair of socks on the kitchen floor or even for me to think the TV stand is dusty and i am on the verge of tears!

It's not every day (thank god) but it happens about once a week.

i don't think having just 3hrs sleep a night is helping!

As soon as i start it, i end up completely unravelling too - "you keep leaving stuff all over the floor which is your fault, and the weathers rubbish which is your fault, and i have hayfever, and i'm hot and all the clothes are full of nice clothes i can't wear, and i can't wear heels, and i hate my job and my friend didn't text me back earlier, and we are not getting married!" I kid you not!!!

Please tell me it's not just me with "prenatal depression" (or phsycosis)! and why am i fine until 6pm?!?!

There is such a thing as ante-natal depression. I had it, it was grim. And I was totally irrational with it.

I found Tommy's website and helpline were really useful.

I didn't take anything, just braved it really, because I didn't want to be on mega antidepressants during pregnancy. But it was awful.

I'm no doctor (well, I am - medieval history ) but maybe 6pm is tiredness too? I was certainly worse in the evening. Often cried myself to sleep.

Oh, and apart from the baby blues, I'm ok now. Baby is 2 weeks old.

i honestly think that 6pm is the magic time! if i am not having a total breakdown at that time, i am really zonked or really motivated to suddenly clean behind my fridge!! odd time!!

Hm, again, armchair doctor work here, but is hunger a factor as well maybe?

But don't listen to me - I'm not a medical expert. Unless you include the black death.

I'm the same pointypine. Pg with dc3 too - 15 weeks. I did consider that I was actually suffering from real depression at one point, as it runs in my family, but I do think it's more hormonal than anything else. My dh gets it in the neck, or so he would have you believe!

I'm so tired too, which doesn't help. Have ordered some spatone which I'm hoping will take the edge off. Am also starting to take omega oil supplements but I don't know if they'll do any good.

I find I'm very short-tempered and less patient with the dc's than usual. I know I'm being irrational and often unreasonable but I seriously cannot help it. I think part of mine is the worry over how I'll cope with a 3rd (surprise) baby - my dd won't even be 2.

Let me know if you find any miracle cures!

My DCs are great when they sense the eruption about to happen - although i normally manage to wait until they are in bed until i erupt! But i do feel that sometimes i am being "tiptoed" around!! "Don't wake the beast"

It's definately not a hunger thing as i have usually just eaten dinner - unless it's a blood sugar thing!!

I find I get more tetchy/tearful as evening approaches. I think it's partly tiredness and partly hormones..

When I was breastfeeding, I used to get very teary early evening too - the midwife said it was hormone fluctuations.

When are you due?

Pontypine - i too feel like this (39 weeks now). Mine is definately tiredness related, my Dh thinks i'm mental. His helpful suggestion when i was sobbing my heart out the other night (no real reason why ) was perhaps you should call 'T', who is a very good friend of mine.

I'm much better if i have a sleep in the afternoon but i don't have another child so far easier for me.
