Got told I am much bigger than someone's daughter who is 24 weeks (3 weeks further on than me) but that is probably because she has a very slim build.....

Don't think am that big, think about average actually....

when was pregnant with DS, one of my patients very nicely said she was surprised i was pregnant and thought i was just fat! I was 35 weeks pregnant at the time so it must have been a very big pie that i ate and it only went on my tummy with my arms and legs remaining their normal size

Was it planned?

Now that was always a good one! Bear in mind I've been with DH for 8 years.

Was it planned?

I find this bloody rude!

Ooooh weird.... and I am also an old married woman! What an odd question!

Ambi · 02/07/2008 22:29

Yes, quite offended. I guess they didn't picture me as the mothering kind...

Then there's the standard pregnancy questions:

Do you know the sex?
Do you have any names?
When are you due?
Bet you can't wait?

Q: What are you having?
A: A baby.

I was told how big I was - & I was enormous but I would never make comments like that to someone.

littleboyblue · 02/07/2008 22:37

Are you sure you're not having twins?

Another one? Already?
Be careful what you eat, you don't want to get fat.

naturalblonde · 02/07/2008 22:39

I got- 'ooh you haven't put on weight like you did with dd1'

Report
naturalblonde · 02/07/2008 22:39

And from same person 5 minutes earlier - 'hello fatty'

Report

Must add the question I had ... do you know about contraception!!!!

Report
youcannotbeserious · 02/07/2008 22:42

Naturalblonde

I had the opposite problem....

One person refused to believe I was PG 4 weeks before DS was due.... Cos, you know, that's the sort of thing you make up and throw into a conversation!!

And 5 weeks after DS was born another person asked whether he was mine because I didn't look like I'd just given birth

Cousin's DH said to me as he was dropping off their DC who were staying the night;

C DH- Hi Dusty, hows motherhood treating you?, where is the baby....

Me (with baffled look on my face)- What..... the baby isn't born yet....

I was about 36 pg at the time and v v v big....

This coming from the man with two DC of his own!!!! He has never lived it down

Are you getting married? (The first words from DP's parents when we told them we were expecting.)

"How long have you got to go? You know there's not a bed to be had up at the JR....my friend's a midwife and she told me.....chuckle, chuckle".
Silly old bint at the post office.
Her chuckles faded into silence as i gave her my "I am willing your heart to stop right now" look.
I only had 5 or 6 weeks to go at the time....just what i needed.
"So, does that mean you won't have a period until it's born, now, then?"
Dizzy chum, who also told me very seriously that spiders eat your clothes...among other gems.

Me: rolled eyes and walked away
Watiress (at max volume across coffee shop): Do you know how many you've got in there? It looks like triplets!!!

Why is it when you're PG you suddenly become public property????

Some of my 'favs' are....

'Are you sure there's just one in there'
'Goodness me youre going to have a lot of weight to loose when baby is born' (From DH's Nan, I am 35+5 & only gained 7lbs so far!!)
'You're going to have your hands full'
'Are you going to have any more'
'Aren't you big'
'Aren't you small'

My friend said something that REALLY made me laugh (bare in mind I have 4 weeks to go) she said for a laugh I should walk into a chemist - stare at the PG tests for ages, picking them up, putting them down again as if wondering whether to get one then take one over to the counter & ask if it's reliable

I share your pain ladies.
Unknown man at work - "that's a huge LUMP you're carrying there"
Security guy - "Twins? No you must be carrying triplets!"
Woman at work "Here comes the Titanic. Stand back".
Man in the lift - "You know there's a weight limit?"
I started laughing it off but then it began to hurt as this is my first child and have been pretty good. Now trying to just ignore it but then the latest was "It's your first child!? It's huge!"
Just can't win.

I am just dying to see my MiL in a few weeks time as she ALWAYS comments on how big I am (this is DC no.3). Luckily I now have SiL who is 8 weeks ahead of me, to contend with - so I she can now tell me how odd it is that SiL is smaller than me.

Hmmm - would it be politic to mention that both MiL and SiL have eating disorders (or certainly place a disproportinate amount of value on being thin by not eating anything much during the day) and that SiL is on baby no.1...

Any scathing comments (not overtly rude) for either of their remarks gratefully appreciated!

turniphead1, tell them they look nice and then wince at the same time. their screwed up heads will do the rest for you;-)

my mil felt it necessary to tell me that she took dh out as a newborn and 'no one knew it was mine b/c i didn't look like i had a baby' as well as several other stories about none of the women in her family ever looked pregnant and all stayed really thin.

the public property bit really gets to me. i'm fecking pregnant, get over it you freak.

LOL at MummyLovesPrams' friend - would love to buy a PG test when 36 weeks pregnant and wait for the reaction!

The 'was it planned?' question really gets to me too. MIL and BIL have both asked it

I am finding it quite entertaining at work at the moment - I'm not 12 weeks yet and don't want to tell them I'm pregnant yet but I'm definitely starting to show. Some people just look down at my belly and then look away but a couple of them have actually asked if I'm PG and then were mortified when I told them it was just too many cakes!

I find the covert little glances MIL gives my belly really annoying. If she just stared openly or admired it, I think it would be better! Instead, whenever I look away, I catch her out of the corner of my eye having a good goggle. She always says how tiny she was with DP and I expect she finds me vast and shocking
I've also had from her: "Is that gym ball anti-burst? To cope with all the extra weight!"
Wasn't very pleased.

A client came into my office and asked if I was PG, I said yes was nearly 30 wks. She looked astonished and said "well you've not got married AGAIN have you" (only been married & div once - cheeky witch) She said then said "I assume you ARE seeing someone then"
I replied, Yes, thanks, thought about going to the bank but found a fella instead!"

Iv started telling loads of people ive been to sperm bank. They're getting on my nerves!!
One minute im huge next im very small, I cant keep up.

People are sooo rude!

Oh God, my mum and grandma are constantly talking about how big my (second) bump is, and at least twice my grandma has asked me if it is going to be an unusually big baby...Last weekend I brightly explained to both of them, not for the first time, the great statistic that the length of the bump is usually the same number of centimetres as the number of weeks you are pg, and concluded, 'so at 33 weeks, my bump measures exactly 33cm. So it is perfect. And normal. Isn't that AMAZING!' I'm sure next time I see either or both of them I will have to reassure them again that, um, this is a perfectly OK size to be when you are about to have a baby.
