when was pregnant with DS, one of my patients very nicely said she was surprised i was pregnant and thought i was just fat! I was 35 weeks pregnant at the time so it must have been a very big pie that i ate and it only went on my tummy with my arms and legs remaining their normal size

I had the opposite problem....

One person refused to believe I was PG 4 weeks before DS was due.... Cos, you know, that's the sort of thing you make up and throw into a conversation!!

And 5 weeks after DS was born another person asked whether he was mine because I didn't look like I'd just given birth

C DH- Hi Dusty, hows motherhood treating you?, where is the baby....

Me (with baffled look on my face)- What..... the baby isn't born yet....

I was about 36 pg at the time and v v v big....

This coming from the man with two DC of his own!!!! He has never lived it down

My friend said something that REALLY made me laugh (bare in mind I have 4 weeks to go) she said for a laugh I should walk into a chemist - stare at the PG tests for ages, picking them up, putting them down again as if wondering whether to get one then take one over to the counter & ask if it's reliable

I started laughing it off but then it began to hurt as this is my first child and have been pretty good. Now trying to just ignore it but then the latest was "It's your first child!? It's huge!"

I am just dying to see my MiL in a few weeks time as she ALWAYS comments on how big I am (this is DC no.3). Luckily I now have SiL who is 8 weeks ahead of me, to contend with - so I she can now tell me how odd it is that SiL is smaller than me.

Hmmm - would it be politic to mention that both MiL and SiL have eating disorders (or certainly place a disproportinate amount of value on being thin by not eating anything much during the day) and that SiL is on baby no.1...

Any scathing comments (not overtly rude) for either of their remarks gratefully appreciated!

my mil felt it necessary to tell me that she took dh out as a newborn and 'no one knew it was mine b/c i didn't look like i had a baby' as well as several other stories about none of the women in her family ever looked pregnant and all stayed really thin.

the public property bit really gets to me. i'm fecking pregnant, get over it you freak.

The 'was it planned?' question really gets to me too. MIL and BIL have both asked it

I am finding it quite entertaining at work at the moment - I'm not 12 weeks yet and don't want to tell them I'm pregnant yet but I'm definitely starting to show. Some people just look down at my belly and then look away but a couple of them have actually asked if I'm PG and then were mortified when I told them it was just too many cakes!

I find the covert little glances MIL gives my belly really annoying. If she just stared openly or admired it, I think it would be better! Instead, whenever I look away, I catch her out of the corner of my eye having a good goggle. She always says how tiny she was with DP and I expect she finds me vast and shocking
I've also had from her: "Is that gym ball anti-burst? To cope with all the extra weight!"
Wasn't very pleased.

A client came into my office and asked if I was PG, I said yes was nearly 30 wks. She looked astonished and said "well you've not got married AGAIN have you" (only been married & div once - cheeky witch) She said then said "I assume you ARE seeing someone then"
I replied, Yes, thanks, thought about going to the bank but found a fella instead!"

Iv started telling loads of people ive been to sperm bank. They're getting on my nerves!!
One minute im huge next im very small, I cant keep up.

Oh God, my mum and grandma are constantly talking about how big my (second) bump is, and at least twice my grandma has asked me if it is going to be an unusually big baby...Last weekend I brightly explained to both of them, not for the first time, the great statistic that the length of the bump is usually the same number of centimetres as the number of weeks you are pg, and concluded, 'so at 33 weeks, my bump measures exactly 33cm. So it is perfect. And normal. Isn't that AMAZING!' I'm sure next time I see either or both of them I will have to reassure them again that, um, this is a perfectly OK size to be when you are about to have a baby.
