Have had two prev losses at CD41 and CD36. Midwife says I can have an early scan to try detect heartbeat at 6 weeks - I cant remember if thats 6 weeks past last monthly period, or 6 weeks past ovulation? Anyone know? Fretting and feeling gulty as tested early (10 days past ovualtion) today and pleased about positive result but wont tell even Mum until I have seen that first scan. DH knows - woke him with news, but we're almost too scared to even talk about it becuse then its real and it will be worse if it all gets taken away again.

She will probably mean 6 weeks past start of last period.

When pregnant with DS (had had previous miscarriage and had been spotting) I had an early NHS scan at 6w2d and I know the doctor hadn't wanted to get me scanned before that because 6w2d was about the earliest they'd stand a chance of picking up a heartbeat. There was a heartbeat that time but plenty of people don't see a heartbeat until nearer 7 weeks.

When pregnant with DD (had had another miscarriage between DS and DD) I paid for a private scan at 8 weeks (so 6 weeks post ovulation) -- definite heartbeat and could see a lot more.

She will mean 6 weeks after your last period. We saw a heartbeat at a 7 week scan which was very comforting after a previous loss.

Congratulations on your positive result! All the best for the coming weeks.

Congratulations. You can have an early scan to try and check the heartbeat at 6 weeks from your last monthly period. At that stage the scan will probably be internal and it is not guaranteed that they can find a heartbeat, even if everything is OK it can take to 7ish weeks to show up (it did with my first pregnancy).

Good luck

thanks everyone will put a star on the calendar as a day to work towards! While I'm at it, does anyone know when the embryo implants?

Congratulations! You can have a viability scan at 6 weeks from last period but as others have said you may not see a heartbeat until 7 weeks.
Not sure about implantation but with both my pgs I had period like cramps and pinkish cm around the time my period was due - I think this is implantation, but I could be wrong.
Best of luck.

i do think that 6 weeks ime would be early to see an hb, but it's nice to see a plump little sac in any case. best of luck to you.

Hi Funbags, congratulations

Contact your GP to see if you can be referred to the EPAU who will schedule an early scan for you at the appropriate date(you need to tell GP about previous losses).

For information I have had 2 previous m/c and had a scan earlier this month. I was warned that possible no heartbeat but it was detected at 5+6 via the internal scan but not stomach scan.

Good luck and happy pregnancy
