Pregnancy

40 weeks today and irrationality is taking over

ok- dd was born at 39+2 and i naively convinced myself this one would pop out at 39 weeks tops. had a sweep on monday and the mw's words where "your cervix is so wide you could fit a double decker bus in there", at least 3cm dilated...

had a massive show this am. but stll NOTHING, i don't feel like this baby is coming any time soon....

the gas engineer has just been to read the meter and told me he had 5 children at home and delivered the last himself cos mw didn't make it in time. i honestly almost asked him to check me over in the completely irrational belief that he would be the best midwife ever and could somehow pull the baby over. i didn't- although he did sweep behind my stove.

i am being the b*tch from hell to dh and my mum who came over to help. i alternate between hugging dd till she can no longer breathe and pushing her away to be on my own.

but i am still terrified of the birth and i am sure this is why the baby ain't coming.

anyone has any ideas on how to get a grip on myself????

Clean?

Or go out for a night on the tiles with your DH? I'm thinking lots of time on your feet - dancing - and then back home for more action... Nice way to fill the time, and prob will get things moving!

Kif- you are describing a version of myself that hasn't been for 10 years and was 25kgs lighter- i look like a beached whale as it is there is no way i could go out dancing right now!!! moreover i have nothing left to wear as i have outgrown all my mat gear!

Show- i am so scared of tearing (bad experience with dd)

off to hang the laundry...

LOL at contemplating getting the gas man to check you over!!

I've got 5 weeks to go and I've just started to get nervous about going through it all over again so I totally understand the fear.....but the general consensus seems to be 2nd labours are quicker and easier than 1st.

If I was you I would just try and go with it. You don't really have a choice!! You can't help your hormones right now so don't waste energy beating yourself up - your mum will understand - DD probably thought you were mad anyway!!!! I know mine looks at me strangely sometimes.

Just potter about the house, do a bit of cleaning, put your feet up......good luck

Ah - but you're in the final stages of inflated whale - before hitting that long jelly belly twilight zone. You don't get strangers indulgently patting your spare tyre, do you?

Gwan gwan gwan! Put on a summer tent dress and leggings and go and let your hair down.

I ate a curry and went into labour shortly after...but it was a very mild korma so must have just been coincidence. Will be trying it again this time though purely as it was yummy!
