It's ok to eat deep fried brie isn't it?

Friend hoping to have it for the starter at her wedding in a few weeks, so said I'd check if those of us who are pregnant can have it.

I seem to think that as long as the cheese is cooked it is ok, but obv it won't be 'piping hot' or it would be a messy blob on the plate! Is this type of cooking sufficient to kill off the small risk of listeria?

I think so! Anyhow apparently there's more chance of catching listeria off an apple than cheese.

yes, it's fine as the cheese is cooked.

I think prawns are fine anyway (only raw seafood to be avoided - ie raw (grey) prawns).

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - its just a nightmare trying to follow the advice.

Yes as long as they are cooked properly.

I think they should be eat hot though (as opposed to cooked and then eaten cold later).

Prawns are great in pregnancy - v. v. low mercury levels so much better than many other fish.

I've had a couple of prawn cocktails during this pregnancy and adored every mouthful!

I had some deep fried camembert the other day.
God, it was DIVINE.
French womwen eat cheese all the way through their pregnancy.
If its good enough for them, I would like to become a frenchie for a bit.

Good point oblomov. Can't see the Spanish giving up seafood in their Paella either!

You can get soft cheeses that have been pasturised (sp?!), just check the label.

ILTMIMI - it's not a pasteurisation issue at all with brie. It's because it's been mould ripened.

Just a thought - I would serve it up and let people make the choice themselves....

I stopped eating brie during my 1st PG and wouldn't have eaten it even if someone had told me it was ok!

As and when I'm pg again I'd have a different attitude, but leave it to the individual....

I always took the view that I expected not to be able to eat everything served up - I wouldn't have expected people to change their menu for me.
