Pregnancy

I think I am having a miscarriage

After TTC for ages found out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago.

However yesterday when I wiped, there was some red blood on the tissue. Lost a little more, not much, over the next half an hour then it went quite watery. Cramps started a couple of hours after that then it all turned brown.

There was nothing this morning then at about 11, the backache started again and a very watery brown discharge. The cramps are mild and the discharge is faint but defo there.

Feel like shit to be honest and just want someone to hold my hand.

I would contact the hospital as if they have an early pregnancy unit they will scan you today or advise - best to know either way so as not to agonise to much. Hope its not a mc - with mine they were both early on but very bright red like a v heavy period.

Take care x

Brown sounds more like old blood so possibly implantation?

Do what nappyzone says though as I have sod all experience here

oh mummy2, sorry to hear this but don't fear the worse yet as it could be just spotting. Is there someone you could call to help look after your other child while you get some bed rest? I would also call the NHS helpline to get some more advice. I know it is scary, have had a miscarriage myself, but try and stay positive, good luck xxxx

Yes i was thinking implantation - is more likely old blood if browny - try to chill but contact epu (easy for me to say i know!).

Its the mixture of period like cramps and blood that is concerning me. EPU not open- thou shalt not miscarry on a bank holiday

Feel so low and angry.

I bought a baby book yesterday and feel like I have jinxed it all

Completely understandable

Call EPU if you have one.

Thinking positively for you

Have to call EPU in the morning.

If Epu isn't open then surely you could go to A+E and see if they can offer any advice/reassurance or alternatively bed rest as much as possible and phone straight away tomorrow

I'm not too keen on a trip to A&E- I know it sounds bonkers but I work in a hospital and would rather go to the experts (EPU) rather than speak to house officers that will know nothing. And they wont scan you in A&E- my friend tried there when she had an ectopic- had to wait til next day for a scan

Fair enough, just rest as much as you can then, any more discharge or pains?

Report
mummy2olivia · 05/05/2008 13:50

Am on knicker watch- discharge is still a tiny bit coloured but not much. But tummy is very heavy, tender and crampy. I've got that feeling like everything is gonna drop out- like the day beforea heavy period.

There is loads of 'popping' in my lower tummy- like a period about to come?

I mc at 6 weeks last year. I had pains in my thighs more than anywhere else and the blood, although brown on first wipe, quickly became bright red very quickly and after the first day there were small lumps of tissue matter in it.

Rest today, try a warm, not hot, water bottle on abdomen for the cramps, phone EPU tomorrow. Very best wishes.

think you should call nhs direct tbh, watery blood should always be checked out to rule out an ep. (chances are it isnt, and everything will be fine) im sorry, i know how frightening it is, take some paracetamol and rest as much as possible x

If the pain gets worse I will go to the hospital. But am reluctant for now. Pain is not in my sides.

And TBH, I prob sound bonkers but if I am going to miscarry I want to be at home with my husband and daughter.

i know, but i would tend to err on the side of caution. they will at least be able to book you in for a scan.

mummy2olivia · 05/05/2008 14:01

NHS direct can book a scan?

they were able to with me, 7 times. 3 of my bleeds with ds, 3 of my mc's and my ep.

Wow. Didnt know that. Will give them a try after lunch.

Am hoping all will be well but if not, this sounds awful, but just want it over with.

doesnt sound awful at all. in many ways the waiting is worse than the actual event. i lways convince myself that everythings actually fine, when it blatently isn't. sure that won't happen to you though x

mummy2olivia i know what you mean about feeling like if its going to go wrong you want it all over with .. i have been under epu from the day i found out i was pregnant because of the horrendous stomach cramps i had .. very much like the periods ihad when i was younger and suffering from endrometiosis (im sure thats not spelt right). I have also had a brownish like bleed that sounds very similar to what you have described .. but i saw my baby's heartbeat on friday at 7 weeks .
My pains are caused by a dermoid cyst that is 3cm in diameter and has been agrivated by the pregnancy hormones they have to keep an eye on that but at least now i know what is causing the pain. I suppose what i am trying to say is that try not to presume its a miscarriage, try to remain positive and take care of yourself
