Hello! I'm 6 weeks pregnant and have been bleeding since Saturday. Been to see dr, been checked out by Early Preg Unit and scan on Thurs to see if I'm still pregnant. Have to just wait and see. Has anyone else had anything similar? In a bit of a knot. First posting here so be gentle...

tattie, there have been lots of cases of bleeding on here which have had positive outcomes so try not to worry too much.

how much bleeding has been going on? is it just when you wipe, or are you having to use pads?

Had slight bleeding at 6 weeks in second pg and it was fine.

Had mc with 3rd preg at 5 weeks and it was v different, v obvious because lots of blood with lots of pain.

Best of luck, try not to worry, it's so common to bleed early and most times it's fine. Everyone's pg is different so it's difficult to compare too much as well.

Fingers crossed for you.

Hi, will only say what I was told - at that early stage bleeding has a 50% chance of being bad news. So those odds ain't bad - considering everyone sees blood and panics, assuming the worst. I'm all for being prepared, which is why I tell you this, not to scare you. It could just as easily be nothing serious at all. xxxx

Have a look at the 'could this be a miscarriage' thread just below yours in this pregnancy section. Lots of people (inc me) saying they had spotting but now have healthy babies. Please try not to worry - as I said on the other thread, I was told that bleeding isn't normal (as in you shouldn't bleed at all when preg) but it is very common, and def doesn't always mean the worst. Put your feet up, as it is important to rest if you get any spotting, and best of luck.

It's been lighter than a period and I've not really had any pain. Dr said the nech of my womb was still closed, so that's a positive.

Thanks for the reassurances and the finger-crossing!!

I'd question the 50% figure - I know many people who've had spotting and only a couple who have miscarried. That figure might be based on a dr's definition of bleeding (i.e. lots) as opposed to a newly preg lady's definition (i.e. pinky bit on a tissue).

Bled for a week at six weeks pregnant - now 24 weeks. No known cause, no long term effects. If the blood is brown and lighter than a regular period it's not usually a problem. Sometimes the implantation can be very messy - ie the egg burrows in and that bit of the womb lining breaks down a bit so you bleed and it can take up to 10 days to come out. But it doesn't mean your baby will fall out don't fret

I presume they are waiting for a few days to scan you so there's a better chance of seeing the heartbeat?

Good Luck for your scan and let us know how you get on.
