Sleeping positions in pregnancy.

According to the current wisdom whilst pregnant the best sleeping position is on your side, for extra pregnancy brownie points it should be on your left side. However, whenever I (26+6) try and sleep on my side (either), the baby goes mental kicking and wiggling until I turn onto my back at which point it gives me a final kick and then goes back to sleep again. Has anyone else had this?

Same here, 25 weeks and the most comfortable position seems to be on my back. I try to go to sleep on my side, but always wake up on my back. Little worried though, as they say we shouldn't sleep on our backs at this stage...

You can't help waking up on your back (unless you wedge yourself on your side with pillows behind your back) just right yourself as soon you wake and don't worry too much- remember this is fairly new wisdom, millions of women have given birth to healthy babies after sleeping soundly in whatever position they were comfiest in, for eons!

Sometimes a pillow between your knees can make you more aware of turning onto your back as it's harder to do without waking.

Personally I used to have ten minutes on my back before sleep whilst I chatted with my dp, then I would turn on my side for sleeping. Baby did used to go mental trying to kick the mattress through my stomach, but I used to rub my tummy til he calmed down. Have you tried that?

I'm afraid it will only get worse as you get bigger! Wait til they get stronger and are determined you Will Not lie on your side/back and stretch their whole body out sharply, MAKING you move... that was always fun... not.

sleep is so precious, whatever position you can find which allows sleep... go for it!

(says the exhausted 35 weeks + pregnant mother of an insomniac toddler)

in all seriousness, as james says, millions of women don't know about it and iall works out anyway
