ok so i know there are hundreds of you suffering like me at the moment and have had some great help from the guys on my ante natal thread but looking for help with my ms as its really getting me down.

so far i havent actually been sick its the nausea and odd pains in my stomach (also have a 21 month old!!). Im eating regularly (although not v healthily, just eating what i can stomach) so ive done the whole eating little and often, bland food etc. Tried coke, lemonade, ginger cordial. The main prob is the drinking, i just can not stomach any fluid and it is worrying me a bit. Today ive had in total 350ml to drink which is hard for me as i used to drink 2litres+ water a day.

I have also tried homeopathic nom vux which has helped a little bit. Just after any pearl of wisdom any of you have as ive really had enough and im only 7 weeks.

please please help

Sorry - no advice, just remember that it is not forever. Also, you get water from fruits and salads and other food sources, so as long as you are sipping liquid throught the day, and eating some of these foods you are unlikely to be dehydrating. I used to drink fresh OJ diluted with sparkling water and found it quite easy to drink and the bubbles seemed to settle my stomach a bit. But everyone experiences morning sickness so differently, it is hard to advise what will work for you.

Best wishes for number 2!

poor you.

God it's so awful isn't it. You have my greatest of sympathies, and as it is 'just morning sickness' I think a lot of people (esp husbands) think you are being a bit wet.

As for any suggestions (tying to remember), little, regular sips of flat lemonade is a good way of getting some fluids down. use a straw (I don't know why it helps, but it is easier to do a mini sip with a straw).

Don't forget that you will be getting fluids in with food so you will have had more than 350ml today.

It should get better in your 2nd trimester (it did with both of mine) so while things feel dreadful now there will probably be some reduction in your nausea from 12 weeks.

ice lollies? I had a lot of them when I had hyperemesis.

I suffered with morning sickness with all 3 dc.

I use to eat an arrowroot biscuit or rich tea when i woke up in the morning, before i got out of bed. It was my mums suggestion and it did help me.

"werthers original"
This is the only thing that got me through the day - i used to suck them during lesson whilst teaching. I was never sick just terrible nausea

I found oatcakes (little Scottish ones) great as they are slow release energy and relatively bland. They come in little packs and I used to have one oatcake about every hour. Then you don't get big sugar highs and lows.
Also a fan of fruit juice diluted with sparkling water- orange felt too acidic to stomach so used to have apple juice and water.

Bland vegetable soup is helping me (I can't cope with liquids either) and also sorbets - they seem to soothe my stomach, being frozen, but are basically liquid, and though they do have stacks of sugar they also have stacks of fruit in if you buy posh ones. Melon too, that has loads of fluid in and is soothing (probably why they bung it in sensitive skincare so often!) Luckily it's recently been reported that the need to drink a ton of water is a medical myth - you can get plenty from food, too.

I've glumly concluded that it's just a case of having to handle the misery. Apparently in Canada they prescribe anti-nausea meds quite happily, have done for years without any ill-effects, but us Brits still have to cope without. I think the constant nausea is the worst part about being pregnant - worse than exhaustion or heartburn or trapped wind or anything. It's just horrible.

Sorbet really helped me with my MS - esp Raspberry. No idea why! I kept a large tub in the freezer and a spoon to hand at all times.

I Wonder if watermelon might help you too.

I think just eating what you can stomach is the way to go - thats what I have had to do with each PG. Fingers crossed it all stops very suddenly and soon for you (then you'll be on here wondering if something is wrong now you aren't feeling ill )

Am going through similiar (even still, at 12 weeks) though it's eased somewhat. I found ginger suppplements helped, you can buy capsules in a health shop. I didn't take them every day, just the days when I felt really really really bad. Coca-Cola is a lifesaver as well, plus not drinking fluids with food - but rather an hour before or afterwards. Also I found I had to frequently change my anti-nausea foods as they became associated with feeling rotten after about a week or so of eating them. For example I can't even look at Carrs crackers now, and rice cakes are also tarnished for me. Hang in there!

I'm experiencing exactly the same. I cant stomach fluids. The sweeter they are the worse so juice or soda drinks are making me feel worse.

Sipping ice cold milk has helped me as its blander than other drinks. Ive also tried icelollies/sorbets.

To be honest I'm looking for as much help as the constant nausea is debilitating.

In was in hospital with hyperemisis weeks 9-14, but home now and feeling much better. Had a real problem with fluids, but found that mint tea, blackcurrant tea and really cold sparkling water helped.

I also had anti-sickness tablets from the hospital and my gp. As tablets they didn't help much, but did when I had them intraveneously in hospital.

Hi. I'm 17 weeks and still being very sick- I'm not sick every day but every few days. I eat regularly to keep my blood sugar up (but have a limited diet of cereal, biscuits and fruit only) and sip fluids as some of the other mumsnetters have suggested.

Poor you. Try Ice lollies, ice cubes and 'liquidy stuff' like melon, yoghurt, soups etc. No matter how hard I try I cannot make myself drink water (Not a pg thing - never liked it), but during my lengthy sicky phase (which is sadly rearing its ugly head again) I could hardly sip at any liquid without gagging. Lemonade ice lollies and coke kept me going. Though I couldn't stand it myself, I have read several MNers swearing by flat coke. Also fruit teas (left to go cold if necessary), hot water with a bit of lemon (& honey if extra sugar hit required)! Hope it passes soon

Fizzy water seems quite good to me. Am sick every 3-4 daysish. Constant small snacking seems good too.

I've been eating little satsumas throughout the day, that's been helping. I think a little something in my stomach helps plus, if you feel you can't take/hold liquids, they're pretty juicy too.

Fizzy water too (Tesco cheap stuff - 17p for 2 litres). It makes me burp (really ladylike!) and that seems to take aware the sicky feeling

I've a lot of sympathy for you mad i myself suffered with nausea, vomiting and terrible heartburn and indigestion from 7 weeks but i'm now nearly 18 weeks and it began to ease off at 16 weeks so i only get the occasionally sickie morning now.

I had the same problem as you, it was fluids I found hard to stomach and I am usually an avid water guzzler but like another poster suggested, melon or even better, watermelon helped brilliantly as its so full of fluid and if you do have to be sick after it its not horrible on the way back up! (As i have found other foods to be, such as bread- very painful and orange juice- tastes vile)

Another thing you could try is having lots of watery soups, don't add salt to anything as it will just make you thirstier and lots of smoothies/fresh blended juices- carrot and apple is lovely when juiced if you have a juicer.

Hope it clears for you soon and all the best!

How about making a big jelly and having a little and often, lots of water in that. I found really cold water, lots of ice cubes, and a splash of high juice squash to help my blood sugar levels really helped at the worst stages. One of the doctors I saw in hospital (admitted lots for hyperemesis) was Polish and apparently in Poland carrot juice is the traditional remedy. I couldn't stomach it (but then couldn't stomach anything at all) but woth a try.

Good luck x
