Vitamin K Injection

Hello all,

How does everyone feel about giving their newborn the vitamin K injection?

The NHS information I have says that 1 in 10,000 could develop Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding, so it's a low risk, however studies show that the dangerous condition can be reduced by giving Vitamin K after birth.

It does mention about one study that took place which associated it with a higher risk of childhood cancer, but other research hasn't confirmed this link.

My feelings are to give the newborn this injection.

What are others views?

It's a long time since I had to take that decision. I opted not to use the injection but the drops and... obviously, being sleep deprived I don't think I gave them to DS as regularly as I should.

However, if I had known then what I do know now about DS, I wouldn't have bothered with them.

2 of mine had it as an injection, one as oral. This baby (should it ever come out!) will be having it orally again- the choice isn't just to have or not!

I have eprsonal reasons this time around specific to my situation that influence my decision on this, but as a bit of a hippy I feel its preferable to give oral over injection to a newborn anyway. I would choose injection over nothing, though.

Do a search for vitamin K by Jimjams, I have a faint recollection that something was said about this subject.

I don't think the post was related to autims at all, but to the real advantages and disadvantages of using vitamin k in newborns.

Dd had it, and this one will have it too.
It is hard hearing a newborn scream when they are given it, but better this than the possible alternative.
