Ok to fly with one month old?

Hi everyone, posted this on Travel but not a lot happening there and everyone's so speedy and helpful on Pregnancy so thought I'd try here too!...

I'm due with my first baby on the 20th of June. One of my best friends is getting married in the UK (I live in Sweden) on the 2nd August. I would love to be there but am worried about flying with so young a baby, if he's late then he could be as young as just one month.

I'm not really worried about it being hard work (I say that now ) as it will be worth it I think, but more about whether it's dangerous to fly with so young a baby, thinking of immune systems, non-fully developed lungs, ears popping etc etc. Have googled but seems a lot of conflicting advice. The journey is about 1hr and 40 btw.

Thanks so much in advance!

I did it with ds when he was one month old on a much longer flight. He doesn't seem to have suffered any lasting effects.

It's actually relatively easy at that age because they mostly just feed and sleep and everybody wants to help when they're small and cute. Not the case when they're wriggly toddlers and a lot more of a handful.

I have recently looked into the airlines guidelines for this as I have an opportunity to go to France when my baby will be about 5-5 weeks old. The guidelines state that the minimum age is 7 days old this was on Flybe and Ryanair, I think easyjet say 2 weeks.
Look on the website for the airline you plan to travel with and their guidelines will be on there.

We flew to canada when DS 8 weeks old rel easy as he slept most of time and when awake happy with just a cuddle - unlike flying with toddlers!

The only thing i would say is if you can upgrade seats to get wider ones its much easier for feeding. I BF on take off and landing and was a little tricky due to lack of space to lay him across me - kind of had to have him up my stomach IYSWM - but that seemed to sort out the ear popping thing.

Thank you so much everyone. Great to hear that you all managed it and that in fact it was pretty easy! The breast feeding at take off or landing is a very good point. The stewardesses are usually quite good at moving people around (though never upgrades sadly!) on this airline if there're free places and a baby, so if I'm lucky and flying at a good time I could get two empty seats together and can then lift the separating arm rest. Will check out the website Nelif, thank you.
Thanks very much again! x
