C-Section - At how many weeks do they do them if planned?

Hiya all,

I have a low lying placenta, which I have to have a scan to see if it has moved upwards at all in a few weeks.

If it is decided that the safest way for me to deliver would be a C-Section, at how many weeks do they usually plan the operation for?

I've had 4 and mine have all been at 39 weeks give or take a few days. They like to wait as long as possible.

I am just about to have second planned both at just over 39 weeks for different reasons. I think they like to do them a little sooner with placenta previa due to risk of abruption, someone I used to work with had hers at 37 weeks.

Thanks Zephyrcat! I will have my scan when I am 36 + 4 so just wondering how soon after that it might be, if it's deemed necessary!

Thanks Denny - it's not completely covering the cervix but has been diagnosed as low still at 31 weeks, so I am a bit dubious it will move much more now, well we will see!

If I end up having one again it will be at 38 weeks to try to minimise the risk of my waters breaking at home. That is the earliest they will do it my consultant said.

usual is 38 week s- I managed to get them to hang on with dd3 until she was 39 weeks.

Mine is booked in for 38+6, 39 is now the norm

Mine is booked for 39+2. I was told they like to leave them as late as possible - so that there is less risk of breathing problems - which avoids the need for a trip to special care. Apparently the risk of going into labour before then is quite high .....and I don't have a plan for that
