I have already started to try my maternity jeans (even though I do have to tighten them up and wear a belt) as I can't fit in my usual trousers. Is this quite early to have gained weight? Does it mean I am going to have loads of weight to lose after the birth?
This is my 2nd pregnancy and ive heard that you tend to show earlier second time around and my stomach muscles are rubbish anyway.

Hmm. I've had two miscarriages between the 11th and 12th weeks in the past year and while I put on a little weight both times I was wearing normal clothes and no-one could have told I was pregnant unless they saw me naked (and even then...).

the baby may be the size of a peanut, blame it on an expanding uterus!
I started struggling about wk 12, so bought some cheapo clothes the next size up, as I wasnt big enough for maternity yet. I move onto maternity clothes around 16 weeks.

Hope that helps x

Sorry to hear about m/c's, I had one last autumn and it was horrible.
I think maybe I have just eaten too much over the last 12 weeks, probably comfort eating to cope with being really anxious, although have had a scan that showed a healthy fetus with a heartbeat.

A few other people say that they have felt their middles expand around this time so may happen to some earlier than others :-)

Me too - every pregnancy is different. I was losing weight, but in maternity clothes. It might not be connected. Push all feelings of guilt at eating crap - if you're listening to your body, it should be fine.

I craved a chippy tea so badly and was diagnosed with low blood pressure and the doctor advised me to eat more salt. Listen to your body. If baby wants chips/biscuits/cakes it's for a reason...

I put on 10kg in the first 3 months...it's not great but it is not abnormal

oh gosh yes - infact I couldn't pull my normal jeans over my thighs before I found out I was PG (so 4.5 weeks). It always goes straight to my legs and bum. For the first trimester I eat anything I can lay my hands on (well, if it's cake and treats) and then the eating calms down, then it picks up again!

This is my 2nd pregnancy and my bump is enormous but it is basically bowel that is being pushed up and out with weak stomach muscles not containing it very well . I did get PG when DD was 9 months though .

I was a small size 8 when I got pregnant and was in maternity jeans by week 13, my weight seems to have levelled out now and I have a nice bump!!! I think a lot is fluid and GAS!!!

At 23 weeks I now realise it's fruitless to worry about weight gain. I ate continually for the first 4 months due to nausea, now that I'm feeling better I'm out on the bike, swimming and doing yoga but the body is only going to get bigger!!

I gained a grand total of 3.5 lb in the first seventeen weeks this time and I was having trouble fitting in my regular trousers by twelve weeks (I did have some fat trousers that still fit, but that was it). So it's not necessarily anything to do with gaining weight; your shape just changes.

I have tried to curb the cake/chip eating having let myself go for a few weeks.I'm now going back to healthy stuff and exercise when the hideous nausea, drained, exhausted feeling of early pregnancy goes away.

I think I will just chill and go back to WeightWatchers after the baby is born! It's that funny stage when you don't quite look pregnant you just look fat. :-)

Have you actually gained weight? You don't say. Just because your trousers don't fit doesn't mean you've gained. No matter what the charts say it's natural to gain a bit (less if you are overweight, more if underweight I think). I've gained about 5lbs at 13 wks which is more than I would have liked - ordinarily I'd still squeeze into my skinny jeans but my tummy has expanded on top of that so no chance!

I don't know about weight gain, but I am pg for the second time and had to switch to maternity jeans at 8 weeks! I couldn't believe it, and went for a scan to make sure my dates were right.... and they were...

I haven't put on anything anywhere else particularly (apart from enormous boobs) but am definitely visibly pregnant.

Oh god,

I was so bloated around my tummy low down that I was in early pregnancy maternity trousers at 10 weeks. Everyone is different - I thought it was baby at the time but reckon on reflection I was just holding onto a lot of water around that area.
I have suffered from water retention in the past - had IBS so reckon that might be why!
Don't worry about it, I was quite big right through up to my 2nd trimester but baby growth seems to have tapered off since and have always matched my dates.

I put on so much weight at Xmas that when I found out just before NYE that I was pregnant I thought sod it, no point in buying clothes to fit my massive Xmas belly (I always put on a stone at Xmas and then lose it over a couple of months, so I'm not mostly wearing maternity stuff, have had two pairs of maternity trousers from about 2 weeks!

Hi Slinkie
I haven't weighed myself since I fell pregnant as I need to invest in some scales but I will no doubt find out soon enough when my midwife first weighs me.

It does sound like I'm not the only one who is having a stuggle to get jeans done up.I think the weight is mainly on my stomach (and on my face!) so is probably normal and I'm just being a bit neurotic and should relax and enjoy being pregnant again ;-)

I was spotted as being pregnant at 9 weeks and in full maternity by 11 weeks
Didn't gain that much weight overall though and the day after had dd I weighed 1 lb less than when I concieved her. (Although body was not the same shape at all! )
