Hi

Am now 24+5, got a sharp pain in lower back esp.when I stnad up from sitting. Not going down my leg so do not think it's sciatica.

Have googled today and it could be that I have a bit of Pelvic Girdle Pain?

Has anyone else had this and what helped to relieve it?

Thanks in advance for all replies!!!!

Hi,

Im now nearly 39 weeks and have had this from about 15 weeks onwards. Im afraid to say it gets worse, mine used to be if i had been on my feet alot ie shopping, once i had sat down in the evening when i then got up i would get pain in my right side of my back and i would struggle to walk for a brief while and then the it would ease. Now unfortunatly if i do to much i get the same but it doesnt ease until i go to bed, then its gone by morning.

I mentioned it constantly to my midwife but was always told it was just pregnancy, she eventually gave me a belt for support a few weeks back but it made it worse!!!

Sorry i cant give u anything positive to help u, but my suggestion is to just take things easy as much as possible, dont do to much in one go (ie dont clean the whole house in one go, was always a killer)!!!

I got this with my last pregnancy- SI joint pain. Your SI joints are by the dimples at the bottom of your spine and all the stretching can leave you with problems after childbirth. I saw NHS physio, which helped a little but when DD was a few months old I went to a chiropracter and fingers crossed still ok now (23 weeks in 2nd pregnancy, and I'm sure my joints went earlier last time).
So, midwife can refer you to physio which might be useful, or you can pay to see chiropractor. Lots of people recommend osteopaths too, but I've never tried. Whoever you see, it'd be good to get a personal recommendation.Mine's in Hebden Bridge, probably not local enough for you! Also, if you're in a hospital club ( Sovereign, Bolton Hosp, etc) they give you money back for registered chiropractor treatment, and £££ for having a baby! THough I think you have to join before getting up duff..

The mat. belts- depending on where your problem is physio recommends you where it slightly differently- I remember being shown how to wear one by physio and leaflet to remind me had several different ways to wear it- though can't remember any details now!

I get this, especially when standing eg to do the washing up. It is the same sort of pain i used to get just before periods. it is apparently caused by the bump throwing your posture forward affecting your lower back. Sitting on my birth ball leaning against a chair back and generally sitting straight helps me.
