I am 38+5, i had my first proper brown show on sunday night and have been passing more pink tinted stuff since. I have loads of pressure down below making me uncomfortable and have had back pain and some period cramps.

Been for my weekly check up today (as being kept eye on for pe) and ctg didnt show any contractions but could this still be the start of labour as i am so uncomfortable??

Sounds like it could be early labour. Eat, sleep and pee all you can, so you are in great shape for established labour.

Let us know how you get on xx

chill, relax, rest and more rest...... can be a while before labour kicks off after a show.. sex can help ripen the cervix, the semen contains prostoglandins that ripen the cervix, and nipple stimulation releases oxytocin that helps to strenthen any contractions you do have.

bath, light some candles and try a visualisation of the birth

and just... be..

Have tried loads of things so far, walking isnt easy though because of the pressure, as i just wanna pee non stop. Really dont fancy sex, especially with the stuff still coming out if you know what i mean!!!

My bump feels really solid all the time now aswell which is weird!!

if you have a birth ball, sit on that, or leaning over it, can help relieve the pressure

This is exactly how i'm feeling. I had a small bloody show on NYE then nothing since then apart from alot of discharge. The pressure feeling is unbelievable though I feel bruised down below and when I stand up it takes me a while to actually move iykwim. I'm 39+3 with my third. I've gone at 39+4 with my other two but had more pain than this so don't think it will be that soon. My bump is also very solid. You are not alone!

Ive been getting period pain on and off for a couple of weeks now, so when i had the show was hoping that things would start to get more regular.
Was getting loads of pain early this morning, but had a bath and it went unfortunatly, and hasnt been as strong since.
This is my first so im not sure what to expect, but as i suffer with a inflammitory bowel disease im used to pain if you know what i mean, so im not to sure if i will know for sure its started until it gets really strong!!!! (ive also been pooing more the last two days, sorry to add)

I'm 38+4 and have been on the loo a lot more than normal, as well as having lots of braxton hicks, some backache (which I hadn't really had before) and a very tight, pretty hard bump. Also he's been moving around less. No show yet, but apparently it doesn't always arrive before labour.

Like the other people on here I'm hoping the big day is coming soon.... any thoughts?

didsnbump,

I had a show a week before dd2 was born it continued all week in little bits. The morning of the day she arrived though it turned to a pinky disharge. It definately sounds like the start of early labour. believe me you will know when it has really started, it's not always about the pain, but the pressure and tightening of your bump will alert you even if it is not too painful.

Relax, eat and drink and wee loads and loads. The pooh thing btw is your bodys way of having a good detox before labour.

Good luck and keep us informed please. xx

Well it's unlikely to be that there is a phone call for you or that you have won a prize. In light of the imenent event it's probable that it means you are going to have a baby soon.

I know what you mean though. I was still in denial with dd2 when my contractions were 5 mins apart lasting over a minute. My dh was still on a neighbours roof fixing it. I just kept wondering around the garden saying nah it can't be, ohhhh I don't know, is it? Owwwwwwwwwwww breathe....... Nah I'm not sure, etc.... pmsl now to think about it.

What I meant was, you will know even if you don't want to believe it, your body will probably tell you before your head does.

It is very frustrating when you are uncomfortable, but the best thing you can do really is try and rest up as much as you can. Try to relax, check your labour bag, make sure you know where your notes are etc. It may be a few more weeks yet.
Not easy if it is your second or a subsequent child, but if it is your first, rest and really just enjoy being alone for a bit longer.

Chances are, you will not be alone much at all for the next 20, possibly 30 years the way house prices are going.
Emjoy sitting on the lav alone.
Havinga nice bath alone.
Reading a book.
Watching TV.
The supermarket alone etc.

I love my kids, don't get me wrong, but sometimes yearn to be alone!!

I'm 39 weeks plus 5 days today. I've had a trickle of dark blood stained show for 4 days along with increasing pressure and low abdominal and pelvic (period-like) pain increasing in intensity since then. Suddenly really hard to move about and felt EVERY bump being driven in the car - excruciating.
Was seen today at the day assessment unit - the midwives wanted to check I didn't have an infection or other cause of bleeding. They ruled that out and internal examination showed a soft but non-dilated cervix. They told me labour could start soon or still be days and days away. I'm trying to take the advice given above to relax but very impatient to see my little baby!

Well later on last night i got some real intense pressure to the point i struggled to stand/sit, but nothing happened through the night and today its not been so bad, so am really confused by whats going on with my body.

Been out for a nice long walk around the shops today, much to my backs dislike. But again nothing much this evening so far!!!!

This labour thing is a pain, why cant it be more definate, as im so uncomfortable now i just need me back!!!!!!
