Headaches in the earlys atges are normal yes and really common- doesn't make it any nicer though. Drink loads, rest and remember paracetamol is OK.

Hi, I suffered with terrible headaches this time round with my pregnany and my midwife advised drinking lots of water and paraetamol (I think the max dose is 8 tablets in 24 hrs but please check) she also told me the reason I was having headaches was that your body makes more blood when your pregnant, but at this stage you don't need it so it causes those horrible pounding headaches!

i also suffered badly from headaches at that stage, i found paracetamol plus really helped, the only the difference is that it has some caffine in it, as normal paracetemol didn't do anything, strange i know but it worked!

I'd be careful how much paracetamol plus you take - I had a look at it and it has 65mg of caffeine per tablet - as the recommended amount of caffeine in pregnancy is only 300mg per day you could end up having way more caffeine than you realise.

Hi I had this and had osteopathy because the weight of the baby was pushing my spine out of line and therefore giving me headaches. They were excrucaiting and was signed off work for a week 3 times. Would recommend osteopathy.

If paracetamol doesn't shift it and just to be sure that it isn't anything sinister like pre-eclampsia make sure the mw checks your blood pressure and urine for protein.

try 4Head (I think its called) - its a menthol-type stick ou apply across your forehead. Great for pg and really works.

I had an almost constant headache at that stage too. Paracetamol, lots of water and plenty of sleep is about all you can do.
Oh, and don't worry - stress makes it worse. Remember midwife is there for you so give her a call if you feel the need. Hope you feel better soon

Sorry Foxy I was advised against using 4head by both doc and midwife something to do with whats in it.

I sniffed olbas oil and that helped. Also lying on my left side with lots of pillows seemed to help too. Finally I managed to get it under control by eating more regularly, headaches can be due to plummeting blood sugar.

I had exactly the same, really bad headaches and even my first ever migraines until I was about 20 weeks - it does pass eventually (I know it doesn't feel like that now) and I think all you can really do in the meantime is stay hydrated, take paracetamol, make sure you get plenty of rest - my doctor offered to sign me off work for a bit as I was suffering so badly, in the end I soldiered on but rest does help so may be worth considering if you don't feel better.

Sniffing lavender oil can help or put a bit on your temples. I suffered really badly with migraines in my first pg, I know how awful it can be. I just took paracetomol which helped.

I seem to be getting very bad pounding headaches for the last few weeks and i am still being sick! Was wondering if anyone else is still being sick at 19 weeks..?? I have been prescribed co-dydromol tabs but only take them when i really need to as i don't like taking tabs at the best of times!!
