First Scan won't be until I'm 16 weeks

Just that tbh , booked in with midwife last week at 12 weeks (took a while to get an appointment) she referred me for a scan and marked it urgent as wanting the Nuchal test done & I've just rang th hospital to be told my first scan is on the 23rd of this month at which point I'll be 16 weeks.

I'm less than impressed about this. I have left a message for my midwife about it but I won't hear back from her until the end of the week as they only pick up messages at specific times on specific days Confused

I dunno what to do , I don't want to have to wait until I'm 16 weeks to be sure everything is ok

Are there any other hospitals in the area that they can refer you to for your scan? I know where I am we have a few close by and I've had friends go to different hospitals during busy times. Other option is a private scan but obviously costs :(

Are you in a position to go private?

How annoying! I was in a similar position a month ago, it took a lot of phoning up and chasing/complaining at people until I eventually did get a scan at 13+3 weeks.
If you really want the nuchal test and you think the NHS won't give you a scan in time, I would advise looking up private scans in your area (babybond for example) and think about booking one in, as they are often available at short notice. They may be about £180 though so not cheap.
I would try phoning the ultrasound or antenatal department at the hospital directly and try and talk to them, especially if you think the midwives won't even get your message till friday.

Unfortunately not in a position to pay for private .

The hospital is the only one in the area the other is 25 miles away

What can I say to the scan department though ?

I agree with GailLondon, Phone direct, Just tell them that date isnt any good for you and you need the test done, they can only do it up to 14w +2 days.
Just be really pushy but polite, dont wait for your midwife.

You could write a letter?

Surely it's in NICE guidelines to have a scan in time for the Nuchal test?

Do you have a new one booked?

No , I had a scan a few weeks back at EPU due to agonizing pain & the sonographer wrote down that I was 8& a half weeks but never said anything to me - it was literally a 2 minute scan so I'm not convinced their dates are correct as that would put me at 11 weeks today .

They wouldn't change the date so I'll be 14 weeks on the day I have the scan , just hope I'm not further on

Tell them this

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/screening-amniocentesis-downs-syndrome.aspx#close

The last day for the NT screen is 14+1. If they can't offer you a scan before that then it is no good.

Ah I see they believe they have booked you in for 14+0. That is a tricky one as the inky way to say it's not right would be to do your own private dating scan + NT

I spoke to them twice and also to my midwife and she seemed to think the scan date I have is fine Hmm

They really won't budge on the date

Speak to their PALS department and quote the above NICE guidelines.
