Pregnancy

Stabbing Pains - Scan tomorrow (6 weeks) v scared

Had weird stabbing pains last night which carried on this morning. Called the doctor and she said to go straight down. She examined me, ruled out a water infection and booked me a scan at the EPU to make sure the yoke sac is in the right place and I'm not having an ectopic pregnancy.

Even though I am officially 6 weeks, I know that I am actually only 3w +4. The doctor said that they may have to do an internal scan.

I'm really scared.

Also I had to tell my boss much much earlier that I would have liked to. Luckily he was really nice but I hate that I have had to tell people way earlier than I wanted to.

Obviously every situation is different, but I've had fairly significant abdominal pain, period pain, stabbing pains on the right hand side particularly, and general 'bump ache' right from the beginning. I had a break around the 20 week sort of mark, but it's all back again now I'm at 34+. Some of it takes my breath away it's so sharp. Never been any obvious cause.

Thanks so much. I am scared to death.

It feels like being stabbed by something like a straw - like enough to make you wince but not to double up in pain. I had period like cramps too which freaked me out.

It was the doctor's response which concerned me more than the actual pain and she said to come straight down and she saw me as soon as I walked through the door.

Fingers crossed I'm just being over protective and nothing is actually wrong.

I'm having moments of elation and moments where I just want to cry.

I had those pains at around 7 weeks pregnant and had to have a scan to rule out ectopic pregnancy, it was terrifying! They couldn't scan me right away so kept me in over night. I had an internal scan the next day and it showed a little heart beating away. He's now 10 months old, completely perfect and asleep on my lap Smile
The doctor said the pain was probably ligament pain.
When you say you're 3 weeks pregnant do you mean 3 weeks since conception or since your last period?
Best of luck with the scan, hope everything goes well!

3 weeks since conception, so officially 6 weeks. I wonder what they will be able to see - I hope they can see a heartbeat.

The doctor did say that it could be ligaments. I was worried that I would be wasting their time but she said that no one knows what's normal the first time round.

Its such a scary time.

I had this at 5/6 weeks too. I was terrified because I'd had a previous ectopic and had one of my tubes removed. It was a sharp stabbing/twingeing pain. I had to push for an early scan. It all worked out fine in the end - the scan showed the pregnancy was in the uterus, and there was a collapsing luteal corpus cyst on my ovary - this was what was causing the pain.

I think I sort of knew deep down that it wasn't ectopic, because when I had that the pain was so unbearable I passed out. However, I don't regret pushing for the scan. It's really good that your doctor is taking you seriously and being thorough in ruling it out.

I really feel for you, I know how scary it is. I'm sure you'll be fine though. Good luck x

You're not wasting their time at all, your doctor is right, it's always best to check.
6 weeks might be a little early to see a heartbeat but I'm not sure!

Also I will add, I saw a little heartbeat at 5w+6. But I think I was lucky.

I had my scan this morning. Too early to see from ultra sound so they did a trans vaginal scan. It was exactly like you all said it would be - nothing nasty at all. I'm so glad I posted on here as I knew exactly what to expect and it was great.

Anyway they best bit is we got to see our little egg and it's in the right place. Nothing at all to worry about. It's still very early days - they want to see me again in two weeks for another scan.

Thanks again everyone for your support yesterday, really appreciate it :)
