Anyone up?? My waters just broke and, as I'm T1 diabetic I called the hospital and I need to go in at about 8.30. I'm not quite 38 weeks. Do broken waters mean I'm dilated??

Congrats!
My waters broke, then contractions started pretty much straight away. I was on stage one labour for a few hours but was only 3cm dialated.

So I would say no, Waters breaking does not mean dialated. I think that's more dependent on the contractions.

Good luck, it does look like you'll be meeting your little one soon though.

Hello I'm up feeding 8 day old dd2.

My waters went at 4:30amlast Wednesday, she was born 48.5 hours later on Friday at 5am. Contractions didn't start until Wednesday evening around 6pm then tailed off completely then started for real just after midnight so all on all it about 5 hours.

Was it a gush or a trickle??

Exciting!

Not sure what you've been told to do because of the diabetes but I'd let the hosp know anyway, just in case. They'll tell you whether to wait for contractions or to go in etc.

Good luck!

It was a gush with streaks of blood, soaking my pyjamas. Am going to hosp in a few hours. Got period pains atm.

I've got a pad in my knickers and it looks like a mini period. Am getting worried :-/

Ring the hospital and say your going in. I'm pretty sure my waters were clear.

I agree you should ring and go in. Best to get checked out sooner rather than later though please don't get stressed about it. My waters had a little blood. Everything was fine.

I just called again and they said red/pink water in the pad is normal but to go in if it gets heavy or if I start losing fresh blood rather than blood-stained fluids.

I bled a little once in labour with my dc1, it freaked me out, midwife couldn't have cared less, oh and my waters were still in tact at this point

Good luck op!

Ooooh good luck! Waters going and crampy feelings = you will meet your little one soon! how exciting! Sending "smooth labour" vibes your way.

Glad that the hospital were able to reassure you re tinged waters.

Do you have everything you need in your hospital bag? If you can stand it, a warm shower in your lower back might ease the crampy pains?

Have something light to eat since you're awake, tea and a banana perhaps?

Just been sick :-( Am v hungry though so trying to eat some toast. FIL is taking us to the hospital in about an hour so I'm going to try to make sure my bag's packed.

Well, I'm confused as to whether this is 'pre-labour' or not. If it is, I may face sitting in hospital for days until it properly gets going, right?

If your waters have broken I believe they 'start the clock' and I think will start contractions for you after 24 hours if nothing is happening naturally, with baby out one way or another after further 24 hours due to infection risk - however don't know how your T1 diabetes would affect this time line.
Good luck! X

Not with your waters gone. Will depend on hospital policy whether they leave you 24 or 48 hours post them breaking. Where I was it was 24 hours. I was induced with a drip and had an epidural beforehand. I felt no pain at all . Good luck hope it all goes well .

If you're being sick and having cramps it's definitely the start. Did you say you're going up tothe hospital? They'll check your dilation then let you know if you can go home or stay. If you get the option, go home! Make sure you pack some 'activity' things to take just incase you have to stay. Magazines, ipad, book etc.

Yes, am going to hospital but I highly doubt they will let me go home unfortunately, due to my diabetes. So I need to be prepared for a boring day or so in hospital if nothing else happens naturally. Wow, baby isn't due for another 17 days!!!

Oh......not long! My waters went, hospital checked it wasn't wee and sent me home to be induced in 48 hours if no action. This was at midnight-3am.

I slept and a walk to the shop got contractions going at lunchtime. Ds arrived at 7pm.

Agree with pp, do the waiting at home if at all possible. Go in when you want some relief.

Good luck! Hope baby cooperates and it's over quickly for you

Also, I found it comfy to rock back and forth on knees leaning my arms on a birthing ball. It really helped ease the pressure for some reason

We were on the conception boards together and now you're in labour! Smile How lovely. So pleased for you.
Really hope they give you the option of going home but take lots of drinks and snacks just incase they don't.
