How common is it to experience problems as a result of being rhesus negative?

Just that really. I worry about it a lot to the point of getting anti-D jabs more often than I probably need to. But a couple of midwives have told me that in all their careers they have never known anyone have any issues with it.

Has anyone on here known of or experienced problems due to this (and I mean in recent years, I know it was a big issue decades ago).

Thanks

Hi! I fell on my bump and had to have anti D. No problems at all.
Wishing you well.

I think it's pretty rare, considering rhesus negative women aren't all that rare. How often have you had anti D, and under what circumstances?

I had a fall and several bleeds needing anti d injections, wasn't a problem at all. I've never heard of anyone having problems with it actually, and neither had my midwife. I just went for the better to be sure approach to injections!

I'm rh negative and have had 4 pregnancies - 1 mmc, 1 cs and 2 vaginal births and have had no issues whatsoever other than the anti d stings. My dm and gm were/are too and no issues for them either.

I did, I got pregnant very very young, hardly told anyone, had baby at 22 weeks (didn't survive) but didn't know I was O neg either so I never got treatment and was sensitized. My Next pregnancy with DS1 left him jaundiced because my antibodies had crossed the placenta and the following pregnancy I gave birth at 20 weeks and again baby didn't make it. DD1 was ok because she is RH neg like me (DH is a carrier) and DS2 and DD2 were closely monitored during pregnancy.

Nope, no problems here either although bizarrely I also had a fall whilst about seven months pregnant. How clumsy are we? Grin Spoke to my midwife but as I'd actually had my anti-d's the day before she wasn't concerned. I was fine.

Thank you, Its a lot less likely now because they know my blood type and they know I have been sensitized. The problem was I was in care and didn't tell anyone I was pregnant because I knew they would take my baby. I planned on waiting until I turned 16 then telling them and I would have stood more of a chance of keeping my baby but I didn't get to go that far. Because of that I never got any prenatal check ups and my blood type was unknown when I gave birth.

It wasn't picked up that I had been sensitized until I lost the baby after DD1 so yes it is a lot less common for babies to be affected by rhesus disease these days but that is because of the doctors and the anti d jag. I have to get one every 6 weeks with every pregnancy now but its worth it.

Please ladies if you have a fall or a bleeding episode then call your midwife, No matter how much you hate sitting in the waiting room or hate needles I guarantee you will hate the guilt you feel towards your own body more if something ever did go wrong. Better to be safe.

No problems here. Four babies and all turned out to be Rh+ with no complications.

Posted too soon.

I meant to say that I'm sorry you had to go through all that, Lally.

Thanks for sharing that Lally. That must have been very scary for you so young.

So if someone is sensitised that doesn't mean they can't have more children? Were your youngest 2 completely unaffected?

With first 2 pregnancies I didn't know about getting anti d for any bumps or bleeds. Both dc seem fine.

I had a really hard knock to my bump last week, sent me to the floor screaming in pain. I was on holiday and it was a few days after the knock that I came on here and saw a post about rh neg and anti d that informed me about getting an anti d jab for knocks or bleeding.

Phoned DAU and they told me to go straight in, everything seemed fine but they gave me the jab.
