Can you book in for a sweep on or around your due date?

Just that really. Or do they like to wait and see if you go a few days overdue first?

your midwife will book you in they wont even consider it till your 40 weeks.

iv been to the midwife this morning im 38+6 weeks shes booked my next appointment for a week on friday she couldn't book me in for next monday as I will be 39+6 so she wouldnt be able to offer one so I will be 40+3

if baby dosent get a move on had DS at 37+3 but this one is to comfy even tho he has been giving me a few false alarms Angry

I had a sweep at exactly 40 weeks with DD1 - but I think it may depend on the area you are in

I will be having one at 39 weeks then again at 40 weeks, but only because I am hoping for a VBAC & consultant wants to try & avoid me needing induction. I think in my area they usually wait til you are 40 weeks+

I think it must be area/situation specific, as my midwife told me they won't do it til 40+5.

Hi eggletina

I saw my midwife last night and we are having one at 38+1. one at 39 weeks, however, she is on annual leave from my due date for 2 weeks and so if I was happy to, she could try one next week. She said if it doesnt work within a few days, she will repeat and I envisage having at least 4 before I'm 40 weeks.

My care is slightly different as I am shared care (MW and Consultant) but am being caseled by a midwife at our local birth centre rather than by a community midwife. She is aware that I want to avoid the labour ward at all costs (long background story) and this is a driving force for the S&S to be early, as well as the fact I am quite petite and my body is struggling now.

In my area you see the mw at 40 weeks but she won't do sweep until 41 weeks or might be 40+6.
I saw her at 39+6 and she wouldn't even book it in as I wasn't quite 40 weeks yet!!

I requested one at 39 weeks which they said was fine as baby was predicted to be big and one then another 2 days later and went into labour 3 days before due date. Was my second.

I'm booked for a sweep at 39+4, by midwife's choice. Don't see why you can't ask for one, they can only say no.

Thanks everyone, sounds like it depends on your area. I've got my 37 week midwife appointment tomorrow so will ask then. I'm expecting to be overdue (runs in the family) so keen to do what I can to avoid it...

You are not 'overdue' until 40+15.

It is normal for pregnancies to last between 37 and 42 weeks.

The 'due date' is just a midpoint. It is not an ideal.

Your baby will come when s/he is ready.
