pg with really big baby after ecs - any happy stories to share?

Hi there,

I am around 34 weeks pg with our 2nd DS. First was born 21 months ago by ecs due to him being breech (so not really really my choice). He was born just shy of 4kg. I had a scan today and have been told that the baby will - probably - even bigger this time. I believe that to be true as I did not watch my weight and already put A LOT on, I look like I'm about to pop and big babies run in the family anyway.

As I am effectively a "first timer" should I chose to have a natural birth, I am (very, very) worried about this big baby. As I know now what's coming and heard a lot of scary stories re giving birth to 4/ 4,5kg babies first time, I am not sure if I really can do it.

Is it possible at all to press out such a large baby without doing a lot of damage. A friend of mine ripped right through and was anal incontinent for 8 months .... I can just see myself with a 2 year old, a baby and myself in nappies :(.

My second baby was 4.2. I was a small size 8 at the start of the pregnancy. She was in a much better position than my other babies and the birth was easy and caused the least damage to my body. In my experience difficult positions cause way more difficulties for the birth than size.

Thanks for sharing. I have been told it all depends on the size of the head (of course) and big babies tend to have big heads ....

Hi Thaleia!! Hope you & DS are keeping well. I remember you two from our pre/post-natal thread when our last LO were born…I'm 35wks tom. Having my first son after 3DDs. My DDs have been 7lbs 2, 6lbs & 7lbs15oz. I'm normally 7st 10lbs & have put on almost 2st. Have gained roughly the same each time, surprisingly despite the variation in birth weights. My bump this time is huge, though & def more difficult to carry. I'm having lots of pelvic pain & have started ML already. When the MW measure me, baby is ploting 90th centile on my graph. So I'm expecting a bruiser :-0
When I get worried about it I remember that my last DD, who weighed the most, was my easiest delivery. I had a virtually drug free water birth. I've also read that sometimes bigger babies "help" deliver themselves & so can be easier to push out?
So, no previous CS here, but I do empathise with your concerns. Hope all goes well!
